Beit Rabban is excited to offer a range of after-school programming for the Gan and
Kevutzot. Each class and instructor has been selected to provide our students with
opportunity for engaging sessions that will stimulate their minds and bodies after a full day
of regular study. Supervised and coordinated by the school, we believe these programs will
enhance your child’s day with the opportunity to pursue a special interest, to interact with
peers from a range of age cohorts, to acquire new skills, and to have a great time! Each
program is run by a knowledgeable and qualified instructor and all participants are
covered by the appropriate insurance carried either by the program provider or the school.
To better assist families in making plans for their children, you will find information about
the entire year’s offerings below.

After-School Programs
2017-2018
Gan After School Programs
Improv (Mondays, All Year)
Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of improvisation. Through
exercises and games, students will learn the basic skills of improv and have
fun developing their spontaneity, playfulness, and imaginations. Improv
classes are taught by Danielle Cohn (a Gan teacher at Beit Rabban) and co-
founder of Bitty City Players. BCP is dedicated to educating, inspiring, and
enriching NYC kids. Their classes provide a fun and supportive space to
explore the wide range of experiences and emotions that spring from the intelligent,
capable and creative young mind.
Kids in the Game- Intro to Sports and Games (Mondays, All Year) NEW!
This class introduces the core movements of sports - jumping, throwing, kicking, catching,
etc - while learning to use our bodies productively. We'll learn to work on passing with
partners, moving in space, eye/hand coordination, and ball manipulation within different
sports. In addition, we'll participate in active physical education and
recess games (think Sizzle Ball, Switch, Castle Ball, What Time is It Mr
Fox, etc). The main objective: get active, have some healthy
competition, and a ton of fun. The classes will focus on a mix of skill
development and play.
Music Wise- Musical Explorations (Tuesdays, All Year)
Weekly experiential music classes allow children to create music in a relaxed and hands on setting. Children perform, write rhythms and sing to music in every class. Child size violins, cellos and guitars are used so that children learn how to hold each of the three instruments and experience playing on them. This is a wonderful prelude to advanced study. They are also introduced to the masterworks of classical and contemporary music. What is the best part? Children learn to love music and play for a lifetime.
Dino Science (Tuesdays, All Year) NEW!
Dinosaurs! Flying, chomping, or stomping around - at home or in the Natural History Museum - who doesn’t love dinosaurs? Our junior paleontologists will learn about a different dinosaur each week. Through dramatic play, hands-on sensory exploration, and creative projects, we’ll create each dino’s unique skeleton and learn how they moved, what they ate, and lots of other exciting facts. Students will develop habits of scientific exploration, prediction and revision, teamwork, and self-identification as young scientists - while having a blast (from the past)! Taught by Danielle
Cohn and Caroline Patterson, co-founders of Bitty City Players.
Yoga with Kathryn Ulrich (Wednesdays, All Year)
IT'S A BIRD, IT'S A PLANE, IT'S KIDS YOGA! Kathryn Ulrich will be returning to the Gan
after school program to teach yoga. Children are
natural born yogis: you have probably seen your
child slither on the ground like a cobra snake, walk
on all fours like a dog, roar like a lion, gallop like a
horse, fly like a jet plane, or a super hero! In kid’s
yoga, the focus is less on the particulars of
alignment and more on experiencing the joy of
exploring something new, stretching to new limits,
and having fun in the process. Kathryn designs her
classes to enhance your child's physical skills, including fine and gross motor coordination,
spatial awareness, balance, agility, flexibility, and sports preparation.
Imaginative Dance (Thursdays, All Year)
In this unique bilingual (Hebrew/English) class children will get to enhance their
nonverbal communication skills and sense of self in an artistic and fun manner. A
multicultural program that encourages a healthy
development of body, mind and spirit through movement and
crafts. Every class has a different imaginative theme with fun
music. Children get to wear creative costumes and are led
through diverse movement and dance exercises from the
realms of physical theater, modern dance, kid’s yoga, improvisation, circus skills, voice,
props experimentation and creative visual arts techniques. The class is directed by Shlomit
Oren-Ross and assisted by Jamie Roach and David Ross.

Improv & Movie Making (Mondays, All Year) NEW!
Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of improvisation. Through exercises and games, students will learn the basic skills of improv and have fun developing their spontaneity, playfulness, and imaginations. They will explore and create characters and narratives while developing new storytelling skills, culminating in a class-created puppet show which we will then make into a short film. Family & friends are invited to join in the last
class for a small interactive showcase. Improv classes are taught by Bitty City Players, co-founded by Danielle Cohn (a Gan teacher at Beit Rabban). BCP is dedicated to educating, inspiring, and enriching NYC kids. Their classes provide a fun and supportive space to explore the wide range of experiences and emotions that spring from the intelligent, capable and creative young mind.
The Beit Rabban Pop/Rock, Musical Extravaganza Workshop/Band
(Mondays, All Year) NEW!
We are putting on a concert at the end of the next
school year!! ….But first we have to learn how to play!
Working with instructors- a Professional rhythm
section (Bass, Drums, guitar). The kids will learn how
to feel the beat and rhythm and play simple parts and
put it altogether as a band. All levels are welcome
including haven’t started yet but would like to. (All
the instructors have or currently are playing/touring,
making records and or teaching.)
Cartooning (Tuesdays, All Year)
Ready to draw some cartoons? Learn from Avi, a Beit Rabban teacher and a published New
Yorker cartoonist. Students will learn about the materials and techniques cartoonists use to
produce a variety of styles. They will also explore different types of
cartoons, from one panel “gag” cartoons to comic strips. They’ll
dabble in character creation, dialogue, and telling jokes through
text and visuals. From first time artists to students who want to
polish their craft, the possibilities of cartooning are endlessly
engaging. Materials will be provided. All you will need is your
creativity and excitement!
