Waverley Care is Scotland’s leading charity providing care and support to people affected by HIV and Hepatitis C.

Whether you are living with HIV or Hepatitis C or are the partner or family member of someone affected by these conditions, we have services that can support you and provide up-to-date, accurate information and resources.

Below is a summary of the services we offer:

African Health ProjectMaking a difference for Africans living in Scotland

Interested in using the project?

Waverley Care’s African Health Project provides information and support to Africans in Scotland.

In particular the project aims to:

• improve access to health care generally, • improve access to HIV testing, • provide information and support to HIV positive

Africans.

With staff in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Lanarkshire, as well as a Scotland wide development post, we can work alongside community organisations such as churches, country associations and youth groups to provide information and support on sexual and reproductive health issues. We also provide this in community settings and at both formal and informal social events. We can give talks, run workshops, and provide leaflets and training for adults and young people in groups, family settings or one-to-one.

The project also provides information and individual and group support to Africans in Scotland living with HIV and to their families.

The benefits for people who have used the project include:

• help with understanding HIV and treatment, • support on a wide range of issues including

housing, immigration and employment, • a more positive outlook on life, • talking in a safe space with other Africans who

share and understand the culture.

People who use the project say that, as a result of their involvement, they feel much more confident and able to see a future; they feel positive about life and have made connections with others.

For some people it has helped them to understand how to live in Scotland; how to register with a GP for example and what kind of things to see a GP about; what to expect from a parent’s evening at a child’s school; even simple things like how to use the bus or the train.

Events/Workshops

If you would like someone to speak at an event or run a workshop, or would like information or resources, then please contact our project in Glasgow. We are able to provide these services across Scotland.

If you would like one-to-one support, or are interested in joining a support group, or would like to find out more about living with HIV, please contact any of our projects in Edinburgh, Lanarkshire or Glasgow.

Interested in volunteering?

Volunteers play an important part in delivering our services; volunteer roles range from one-to-one befriending to community education, from condom distribution to event organisation. If you
