He attended the University of Illinois in Urbana-ChampaignImage Converter for Detecting Electromagnetic Radiation specially in Short Wave Lengths

George Edward Alcorn, Jr. was born on March 22, 1940, to George and Arletta Dixon Alcorn.Attended Occidental College in Pasadena, California. An x-ray spectrometer assists scientists in identifying a material by producing an x-ray spectrum of it, allowing it to be examined visually. This is especially advantageous when the material is not able to be broken down physically.

Dr. Daniel Hale Williams was an African American who made history by performing the first successful open heart surgery operation. Daniel Hale Williams was born in 1856 in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, the fifth of eight children.In Janesville Daniel began to attend high school. He graduated from Hare's Classical Academy in 1877.

Born 1914 Hickory, Virginia.She moved from Virginia to New Jersey where she studied to be a physical therapist at the Panzar College of Physical Education and at Union Junior CollegeThe electrical device allowed a tube to deliver one mouthful of food at a time to a patient in a wheelchair or in a bed whenever he or she bit down on the tube.

Died December 30, 2009.

The top selling toy in the United States in 1991 and 1992, over 40 million Super Soakers have generated over $200 million in sales since 1990. In his hometown of Marietta, Georgia, February 25, 1994 was declared "Lonnie G. Johnson Day" in his honor.

George Crum sliced them so thin that they would be too crisp to use with a fork, but the customer loved them!

George CrumIn 1960, George Crum opened his own restaurant, in which a basket of potato chips were put on each table. The son of former slaves, Garrett Morgan was born in Paris, Kentucky on March 4, 1877.

In 1895, Morgan moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where he went to work as a sewing machine repair man.The gas mask was used to rescue 32 men trapped during an explosion in a 250 feet underground tunnel.Garret Morgan patented the Morgan safety hood and smoke protector in 1914.Invention: The Gas MaskLonnie G. Fred Jones was born on May 17, 1893 in Covington, Kentucky. His father was a white railroad worker of Irish descent and his mother was BlackOn August 1, 1918 Jones enlisted in the 809 Pioneer Infantry of the United States Army and served in France during World War I.

Jones died on February 21, 1961 and was awarded the National Medal of Technology. Jones was the first Black inventor to ever receive such an honor.Invention: Two-cycle gas engineJones patented the Two-cycle gas engine in 5/29/1945 and in 3/11/1947.

Otis Boykin

Otis Boykin invented the electronic control devices for guided missiles. It was patent on Feb. 21, 1961.

He also worked in a laboratory testing automatic controls for airplanes.Boykin was born in Dallas, Texas, on August 29,1920. He died of a heart failure in 1982.

Invention: The Guided Missile Control DevicesHe is most famous for inventing the pacemaker.Lewis Temple Lewis Temple was born in 1800 as a slave in Richmond, Virginia. He got his freedom and moved to New Bedford, Massachusetts in 1929 where he worked as a blacksmith.

In 1848 Temple improved a harpoon that could kill large mammals. He called the invention Temple's Toggle or Temple's Iron.In 1854 while his new shop was under construction, Temple fell into a hole and he died a few short weeks later because of his injuries.Experts announced that Temple's harpoon was "the single most important invention in the whole history of whaling."
