Objectives of AFP

Assess the ability of the AFP (Acute Flaccid Paralysis) surveillance system

To identify any circulating poliovirus (wild or vaccine-derived)

To detect in a timely manner any importation of wild poliovirus

To make specific recommendations on how to maintain certification-standard AFP surveillance
