Preface 

Nowadays  the medical advancement and achievements  in civilized countries depends on  the technology and modern facilities. Realizing this fact Afghanpharma Company aimed to organize the  First  Conference  on  medical  Imaging  and  Advanced  Technology,  to  introduce  health diagnostic and  imaging services and equipment national wide  in the country. This conference, which was the best at the time, was held  in Kabul, Afghanistan  for 3 days  from 6‐8 July 2011 while hosting more  than 1,300  specialists  and doctors  from different medical  fields  from 38 provinces of Afghanistan. (300 from various provinces) 

Particulars of the Conference 

    In addition to active participation of Minister of Health, Minister of Higher Education, Medical University  of  Kabul,  Radiology  Association,  Ultrasound  Association,  Echocardiography Association of Afghanistan, the participants were comprised of professors, specialists from USA, UK, UAE, Turkey, India, Tajikistan and Iran in scientific collaboration of ministry of public health, Kabul  Medical  University,  Radiology,  Echocardiography  and  ultrasound  associations  and ministry of higher educations. 

    In  fact  organizing  the  conference was  a  revolution,  effects  of which were  visible  through health community of the country. All silent talents, which were to be encouraged, received the confidence  to  take  step  in  building  the  health  community  by  sharing  their  knowledge  and   abilities. Moreover,  it  is the first time that the health community of Afghanistan  is witnessing commencement of such an important and historical conference in the country.

The Audience 

Dr.  Suraya  Dalil,  Minister  of  Public  Health,  Dr.  Jamahir  Anwari  Minister  of  refugees  and returnees  Affairs,  Dr.  Homayon  Azizi  minister  of  parliamentary  affairs,  Senior  Advisor  of Presidency in health affairs, chairman and members of the parliamentary committee with eight members  of  the  Commission,  Senior  authorities  of  public  health,  Pharmacy  Affairs,  dean  of Kabul medical   university, chief of rules and regulation,  the chamber of commerce president, defense and interior ministries authorities, heads and members of radiology, echocardiography, ultrasound  , endoscopy  , surgery and maternity association, heads of all provinces’ hospitals, NGOs, many of visual media such as Negah television, Sedaye Afghan, Tolo TV, Ayena, Arianna, Shemshad,  Pezhvak,  Noor,  Tamadon,  Kabul,  Kheibar  and  Rouz,  governmental  broadcasting media,    International  visual media  such  as BBC, CNN, Aljazeera  and other private  audio  and letterpress media were present as well. 

 

Inauguration 

The conference began with recitation of verses from the Holy Quran. After reading the agenda, board of directors were asked to settle on the special places prepared for them, the conference was inaugurated with the national anthem of Islam Republic of Afghanistan. 

Subsequently, Dr. Suraya Dalil, Public Health Minister of Afghanistan, presented her speech and expressed  that  organizing  such  productive  conferences  is  an  essential  and  important  step toward  developing  and  growth  of  modern  medical  services  in  the  country.  She  took  the opportunity  and  appreciated  Afghanpharma  International  Company  for  arranging  such innovative and modern gathering  for  the health community. Latterly, with presence of many visual  media  and  reporters  she  inaugurated  the  first  medical  equipment  and  advanced technology exhibition.

The Exhibition 

    At  the  side  of  this  international  conference,  there  was  the  first  and  largest  medical equipment  Exhibition, within  the  2400  square meter  area,  and worlds  top brands  that  are represented by Afghanpharma was exhibited for three days,  

The first and second day was exclusive for the conference participants, while the third day was opened to public. 

    “Such  conferences  and  exhibitions  increase  motivation  and  expedite  efforts  in  using advanced  technology, existing  skills  and  current  information  to provide better  services”  said one of the medical association experts during a report with a visual media. 

Conference Scientific Agenda: 

The  topics were on MRI, CT  scan, Angio Cath  Lab, Ultrasound,  Echo, Doppler, Endo  surgery, Endoscopy…. And other Medical imaging and advanced technology issues… (Detailed agenda is attached herewith separately)

Organizing the training courses regarding the medical equipment by Afghanpharma was other issue that was declared and published during the conference and exhibition.  

 Afghanpharma has always tried to provide more facilities regarding the marketing by  its after sale services.

Conclusion 

    Generally, according  to medical experts,  this conference on medical  imaging and advanced technology was a pioneering  step  for promotion and persuading  the medical  society  toward modern technology and better health services. 

    There were  scientific  and  practical  presentations  and  lectures  presented  by  national  and international professors regarding different aspects of  latest medical  technology, which could be considered as part of our achievements in the conference. 

    As part of  the conference, Afghanpharma distributed a number of appreciation  letters and valuable gifts to the high ranking governmental authorities, professors and  lecturers who had attended the conference.  

Also  some  special  gifts  have  been  distributed  for  the  doctors  who  were  the  winner  for questionnaires which was asked at the end of conference to know the feedback of lectures. 

Reflected Outcome 

    In  fact,  organizing  such  conferences  increase  the  awareness  and  understanding  of  health community of the country, initiatives become stronger, and the hope for a bright future, which is indeed through using and having access to the latest medical technology develops.  

    The  aim  is  definitely  to  pave  the  ground  for  Afghan  doctors  for  better  diagnosis  and treatment in the country, and provide better health care facility to avoid travelling miles away from home. This objective can be enhanced by potent experts of the country through using the latest technology of the world.
