IntroductionAbundant thinking is a form of positive thinking. It is about creating a

mindset of positive values that allow you to perceive your life as one ofabundance, not one of scarcity3fear3lack. It teaches you to flip your mentalattitude coin from negative to positive and appreciate how much you havein your life to be grateful for.

owever, it does not suggest that our gratitude should cause us to stopstriving for more and 4ust accept our lot in life5 rather it teaches quite theopposite6 that by acknowledging how abundant our lives are already, ourminds will embrace the concept that the good things in life are potentiallyunlimited when we allow them to be.

Abundance means to be richly supplied5 to be over 7supplied. Thismeans that we should have no fear of asking for more because we can beconfident in its delivery. Abundance is a store that never runs out of itsgoods.

Abundant thinking is not 4ust concerned with money, although there isa strong financial aspect that can be applied5 it is a life philosophy. Wheremoney is the issue, it is viewed as a tool that allows a better quality of lifeto be achieved 8 not 4ust the material aspects, yet most crucially thefreedom to spend time doing the things that matter with the people who

matter.9imilarly, being a rich dad, or mom, may not relate to money at all. It

can even negate the willful drive for e:tra finances, especially where thatworks against the more important aspects of life, such as love and family. We all know of rich, unhappy people.

We sometimes read about them in newspapers and see them on thetelevision5 people who have a clear abundance of finances yet who arelacking emotionally.

Abundant thinking, which I call the ;#onsciousness t have, rather than on what you do have, as well as of all the goodthings, through your focus on them, the same way.

The Law of AbundanceThe 'aw of Abundance is one of the universal laws. These are also

referred to as spiritual laws or laws of nature. ?niversal laws are thoseimmutable principles that rule our world, governing how the entire cosmoscontinues to e:ist and thrive.

While the very notion that these laws e:ist may prove too esoteric forsome people, there is a sound basis in science for several of them.

@or e:ample, the 'aw of #ause and ffect states that any action produces a result in e:act proportion to the action which initiated it. Thisidea goes back to &iblical times. It says in Balatians6 CWhatsoever a mansoweth, that shall he also reap.D 9ome people think of this in terms ofkarma.

What Is Abundant Thinking?Abundant thinking requires that you appreciate what you have in life,

rather than bemoaning the things you lack.It further asks that you focus on what is possible, and that you reach for

what you want in life.If this point sounds like something you are already doing and it is not

producing the goods, it is because you have not established the Bratitudemindset 8 the one that makes you always appreciative. In contrast, scarcitythinking focuses on what you don>t have, what you want more of, what youmight lose, and what has gone wrong in your life.

Eeople who think abundant thoughts are happier than those who don>t.It stands to reason6 Abundant thinking is positive thinking. That does notmean they are unaware of the areas where their lives might needimprovement, they are simply able to approach those areas with a positiveframe of mind, confident they will have no difficulty bringing about thenecessary changes.

This is because they choose to believe there is an abundance ofwhatever they need 4ust waiting for them.

If this all seems a little otherworldly, here>s an e:ample of how thismight happen6 'et>s say you are looking for work, yet your attitude is thereare few suitable 4obs and you>ll never find one for yourself.

In other words, your attitude stinks. You are thinking negatively. Thismay mean you take no action to find a 4ob.

You don>t compile a resume, you don>t send email inquiries, and youdon>t go knocking on doors.

And if by chance you did bump into the person who could give youyour dream 4ob, he or she would not offer it to you because you would not

be viewed as the positive individual that employer seeks.A negative attitude can therefore be self7perpetuating, as it consistently

produces negative results that further reinforce that negative attitude.

In contrast, with your high #onsciousness of Wealth, your results areentirely different.Abundant thinking opens up possibilities and opportunities that we

could easily have missed by harboring negative thoughts and thoughts ofscarcity.

It causes you to take positive actions because you firmly believe ande:pect they will produce the desired results.

You take as your proof for this the fact that you are already more than

blessed by the abundant gifts in your life.Abundant thinking is about focusing on what you have right now, andusing that to build a brighter future. It does not let you dwell in the past, regretting mistakes and ventures that did not work out e:actly as planned.

Eeople who think abundantly do not suffer guilt for their desire toattain more.

That is is for two reasons6 They are already grateful for what they have, and they do not feel that asking for more will deprive anyone else.

Abundance means there is plenty to go around for everyone.

Abundance MotivationA key part of abundant thinking is abundance motivation, sometimes

    called appreciative7assertive thinking.

This is the belief that we have more than the minimum necessary to get by. It says we have more than we need, and more than we could have evere:pected.

It requires that you dispel any assumptions about what you will receivein life, be that from Bod, nature, society, parents, peers, friends, or lovedones.

Again, this does not suggest we have to stop wanting more. It is simplyabout establishing the correct mindset.

Gnowing we have more than we need makes us feel happy andgrateful. We appreciate what we have, and that means whatever else we getis a bonus.

Thinking you deserve more, you are owed more, or e:pecting more, leads to resentment when it doesn>t show up. You have to remember howyou came into the world 8 with nothing 8 and how you will end up leavingit 8 with nothing.

#reating a healthy attitude toward your e:isting abundance relies onfocusing on what your minimum requirements truly are.

If you have your health, enough food to eat, and a roof over your head, then you have sufficient to survive and lots to be grateful for. If you alsohave love in your life, you should be ecstatic.

aving any or all of these things, even at their minimum levels, still puts you far ahead of billions of people in less developed countries whostruggle every day for the basic necessities of life.

Ironically, many of these people will lead happier lives than those of uswho have plenty.

It is all about e:pectations. The world does not owe you a living. Itdoesn>t owe you anything. Yet neither will it deny you anything if youhonestly believe its abundance is 4ust waiting for you.

The key is to be realistic, and not be influenced by our modernconsumerist society. #ommercials will try to convince you that you needcertain items to be happy.

What we have to remember is that abundant thinking does notguarantee anything.

If we start believing abundant thinking will definitely bring us wealthand riches, or anything else we strive for, we have arrived back ate:pectations again.

All you have to do is accept the good things in your life, be grateful forthem, and know that if you do want more, there is an abundance out therewaiting to be tapped, and it is your positive attitude that will far morereadily allow you to tap it.

Abundant Thinking in PracticeAbundant thinking can be used to good effect in every part of your life.

It allows you to be grateful for the good health you en4oy, and to know that

if your health is suffering, it could always be worse. We can also take the opportunity to be grateful for the good health we

have en4oyed in the past, and for the good health that still e:ists in those people we care about.

It is all about perspective5 seeing the positives rather than thenegatives.

9o how can this be applied to an unsatisfactory financial situation-What about if you sign a deal with someone and that person then

reneges and leaves you out of pocket-The normal way to behave is from a perspective of loss. This is perfectly understandable because loss is involved.

owever, it does not take into account the imperfect world we live in.We all know that people can take advantage and there are some who areout to rip you off.

aving an abundant thinking habit ensures that you handle thissituation with the minimum detriment to yourself.

It means your intent is always to maintain an abundance of happinessin your life, which will serve to counter any negative feelings, none ofwhich are helpful.

The actions you will need to take to rectify the situation can be takenwhatever your mood. Any negative feelings, harbored toward the other

person, do not affect the other person. The only person they screw up isyou, taking away from your feelings of abundance.

Abundant thinking creates a mindset that allows a better perspective onthe situation.

You will ask yourself6 C as this person stolen my happiness, or am Idoing that to myself through my reaction-D

And if the worst7case happens and you are seriously affected by whathas happened, your belief in the abundance available to you will be yourreassurance that the loss will be replenished soon, and then some.

This creates a faster recovery from the ill7effects of mis7using your power. Abundant thinking allows the person to quickly accept life>sdifficulties and move beyond them to better times.

In a business environment, abundant thinking focuses on theorgani=ation s strengths and what is possible, not on what may have gonewrong.

This is crucial in hard times, like those many are e:periencing at themoment.

"As you can imagine, people who make the %ecision to have a high#onsciousness of Wealth are immune from any mass perception of aneconomic ;down7turn;, because we know we are the only ones who createour fortunes.$

any businesses have e:perienced huge losses and difficulties, and thetemptation is thus to concentrate on what was and what might have been. This type of thinking is based on scarcity3fear3lack.'eaders who take this attitude in business can instil negativity in their

workforce and therefore e:acerbate any perception of problems thatalready e:ist.

How to e An Abundant Thinker The first step is to take a good honest look at your current and past

attitudes, and assess whether your thinking has been based on abundance. If not, then you have to gauge how far away from abundant thinking

you are.You should ask certain questions6 %o you routinely evaluate how your

years of negative conditioning made it difficult, or did you 4ust notknow about it-+. %ecide now that you will start to think abundant thoughts.

. #ount your blessings right now, and start being grateful for all thegood things you have.

/. 9top thinking of what you believe you don>t have5 you areconcentrating on an empty space.

Instead, begin to focus on creating the circumstances that willcause abundance to fill your empty spaces. %evelop your interests, knowledge and skills in areas that will help you achieve more.

happiness for yourself and others.0. You can want, yet don>t create specific e:pectations for yourself.1. &etter still, create =ero e:pectations of what you will receive.

%o not automatically assume you will receive anything. Fust knowanything is possible and invite that abundance into your life.

    2. &e mentally prepared for the worst7case scenario.Think positively about receiving what you want, yet do not take it

for granted it will be yours. If you meet your goals, it will add to thehappiness you already en4oy5 if not, it doesn>t matter because you arehappy with what you already have.

*L. )ever fall into the entitlement trap and think the world owes you aliving and that you deserve to receive what you want.

verything you receive in life is a gift. The world doesn>t owe you

How to e a #ich Dadaving a !ich7%ad mindset is about focusing on the financial aspects

of abundant thinking, rather than 4ust the psychological. This involves analy=ing how you view certain pertinent financial

questions, and swapping a scarcity or deficit thought for an abundantthought.

*. CI can>t affordD becomes Chow can I afford-D when abundant thinkingis applied. This is because saying you can>t do something closes down

with abundant thinking. This is not focusing on the e:pense of having children, yet on the

duty to create a more secure life for them.. ;I don>t care about money; becomes ;money is power; when abundant

thinking is applied. The idea that money is somehow CdirtyD is e:changed for the

abundant thinking. This is about allowing your money to work while limiting the risks

involved.J. ;Eay myself last; becomes ;pay myself first; with abundant thinking.

This ensures you have money available for investments to make evenmore money.

    K. CThe state will provide for meD becomes CI take responsibility formyselfD when you apply abundant thinking. This counters entitlementthinking and embraces financial self7reliance.

    0. CAcademic literacy is importantD becomes Cacademic literacy and

financial literacy are importantD with abundant thinking. This providesa firm grounding for the real world.1. ;I work for my money; becomes ;my money works for me; with

    The Alternati$es to Abundant Thinking

Deficit Motivation/Entitlement Thinking %eficit motivation is the opposite of abundance motivation. It is also

known as entitlement thinking. This is how victims are made.ntitlement thinking has already been discussed to a certain e:tent. It is

that awful feeling that says you have been cheated out of your 4ust desserts, your rightful inheritance.

It is how people think when they set specific e:pectations forthemselves that are based on their belief that they deserve more.

ntitlement thinking can create the narrow miss that causes a littlegrimace, or a headlong plunge into an empty chasm. That happens whendelusion is largely responsible for a person>s e:pectations.

Think of the tone7deaf crowd in the first round of CAmerican IdolD "ifyou watch TN and have even seen that show. Eersonally I have not. Thereference is borrowed$.

This sort of thinking takes many forms. It may make you think you deserve more money, a better 4ob, more

praise, a more attractive body, better opportunities, skills, friends, partners

etc.It covers the whole gamut of disillusionments that can cause careless

people s lives to be miserable, and their emotions to be fraught and chargedwith anger and resentment.

These emotions are caused by the belief that they have received lessthan they e:pected or deserve.

It is setting too7high minimum e:pectations. It comes down to arbitrary personal assessments that have no basis in

reality, and which have been bolstered over the years by well7meaning yetill7advised encouragement from others.Think of the relatives of the tone7deaf crowd in the first round of

even more annoying. ither way, however, the stumbling block is thesame6 e:pectations. These are what cause the disappointment andunhappiness.

!ecogni=ing entitlement thinking is easy. It is feeling we are in a holeand trying to climb out. It is the sense that we are constantly struggling tokeep our head above water.

Although these situations may seem true now, they should not becomewho you are.

A better way to think of things is to reali=e it could be a lot worse6 thehole could be your grave that you never get out of5 and at least your head isabove water and you>re not drowning.

With these new interpretations, it instantly becomes apparent you have

a lot to be grateful for.%eficit motivation can cause serious harm to people. It can make themaggressive and negative to be around, even with those people closest tothem5 or especially so.

It can provoke a reckless attitude to life, where they take dangerousand uncalculated risks.

Scarcity Thinking9carcity thinking is the opposite of abundance thinking. This happens when people focus on what they do not have in their

lives. They take what they have entirely for granted, show no gratitude, and

choose instead to focus their energy on being resentful at the CgapsD intheir lives.

Eeople who live by thoughts of scarcity are creating the verycircumstances that will cause further scarcity, because they are convincedthere is a shortage of the things they want in life.

They do not embrace the concept of abundance, and thus do not invite

it into their lives through a positive attitude.9carcity thinking can also produce more far7reaching negativerepercussions.

It can cause people to take things they don>t need, or too much of whatthey do need.

ConclusionThe concept of abundant thinking can be pu==ling if you do not

understand the message that lies at its heart. To summari=e, abundant thinking is about being grateful for what you

do have rather than focusing on what you seem to lack.It involves having no hard and fast e:pectation of what you will

receive based on some egotistical notion of what you deserve out of life.Instead, it says6 &e happy with what you have because it is all

effectively on loan to you while you are here, and if you want more, thentake the appropriate actions to achieve more, yet remain happy in theknowledge that it may not happen as you e:pect.

All this serves to produce the correct frame of mind to ultimatelyaccept the gifts the universe has waiting for you in abundance.

This is where some people may struggle, because this asks that youmake a leap of faith and believe there really is an abundance out there.

The only way to get around this is to reali=e that the alternative view isthere isnt an abundance, and therefore you would have to live your life inscarcity.

The choice about what to believe should then be clear.Think of it this way6 It>s your birthday. It>s not written in stone you are

entitled to gifts, so whatever you receive is a bonus and you should begrateful.

owever, you are more likely to receive better gifts the nicer you are,and nice people tend to have positive attitudes.

A negative attitude means being not so much fun to be around, thusfewer people would show up at your party and they will likely hand youtheir unwanted gifts from the previous #hristmas, or come empty7handedand 4ust drain your boo=e cabinet.
