SHIKSHA –
- SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME
•Merit-cum-means based scholarship
•Covers higher studies in professional and technical institutes
•Merit – The first criteria to maintain dignity of the candidate
•Means – To identify financially disadvantaged candidates
•105 scholars, all from financially disadvantages background,
have benefitted
• 14 doctors, 27engineers, 2 dentists, 5 pharmacists, 5 MBA’s, 14
masters, 18 diploma etc.
• The scholars are giving back by participating in MFG activities
• Ashok Vernekar died due to a brief illness in 2000
• Archana Vernekar supported her two children by running a
small tea stall
• Ashlesha received the MFG scholarship for BAMS course in
2006-07 and is pursuing her 4th year.
• Amit followed his younger sister with a MFG scholarship for
Masters in Chemistry in 2007-08 and has been selected for his
Ph.D at Tata Institute of Sciences, Bangalore
• Today their mother is a satisfied and proud parent

WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
•Thrust on capacity building & economic independence
•1400 ladies are part of 110 SHG’s with a capital of around 87 lakhs.
SHG’S PARTICIPATING IN AN EXHIBITION
• Village - Harijanwada, Pissurlem
• Community - Traditional bamboo artisans
• Basic product – baskets and mats
• Economic activity – daily wages (road sweeping, house maids)
• MFG Intervention – motivation, formation of SHG, training
• Present products – decorative baskets, tea coasters, wall hangings,
hair clips, diary covers etc.
• Achievement – linkage with GHRSSIDC
Provided an opportunity to polish existing skills. Coincidentally,
the ladies belong to the SC community

MFG - LABS
•Initiated in partnership with Dr. Reddy’s Foundation
•Aim was to identify school dropouts and impart employable skills
•Process:
�Market survey – identify employable sectors
� Identified sectors – hospitality, home nursing, MSW, ITES, CRS
� Identify school dropouts – mining area
� Impart training – 3 months and on-job
� Placement – 305 youth placed in various sectors
� Success – The State Govt. through the RDA initiated “Grameen-
LABS” throughout the State.
An example of providing opportunity to disadvantaged youth to lead a
dignified life.

WATERSHED –EMPOWERING LIVES
• National Watershed Development Programme for Rainfed Areas
(NWDPRA)
• X Five year Plan – 3 micro-watersheds with a coverage of 2869 ha.
• XI Five year Plan – 5 micro-watersheds with coverage of 5233 ha.
• Emphasis on Natural Resource Management(NRM) and Human Resource
Management (HRM)
THE MANGAL STORY
• Village situated on a hilltop in Sanguem taluka
• Community – Velip, traditional hill dwellers practicing shifting cultivation and
dependent on forest produce
• Population – 300
• Community mobilization – 12 SHG’s
• Financial Capital – 8.5 lakhs of Corpus and Revolving Fund
• Natural Capital:

• Apiculture Boxes – 21 Vermicompost Units – 2
• Cashew Juice Extractor – 2 Cashew Processing Unit – 1
