IMPORTANT NOTES• OUTSIDE INTERFERENCE by anyone with a team’s solution will not be tolerated in any form and deductions will be

assessed for violations. This includes, but is not limited to, painting scenery, applying make-up, fixing a costume or scenery, or any other way in which a Team Manager or non-team member could affect a team’s solution. Interference of this kind violates the Spirit of DI.

• Parents and Team Managers are allowed to help teams move props into and around the tournament site, to the team’s Prop Storage Area, Prep Area, and to clear the competition areas when the appraisers have indicated they may do so.

• Please keep all food and drink in the Cafeteria/Commons and refrain from eating and drinking at the challenge sites.

• Help us keep Atlee High School & Chickahominy Middle School clean by picking up any trash and placing it in a trash receptacle.

NEW ADVANCEMENT GUIDELINES FOR GLOBAL FINALS 2018

The following has been published in order to help your team understand how teams will be chosen to advance to Global Finals 2018. We will outline the advancement as well as the new Lottery system that is in place to give more teams the chance to attend Global Finals.

Virginia is allowed to advance 3 teams per Challenge, per level to Global Finals 2018. That will mean that First, Second and Third place teams in each Challenge and Level will advance.

When ties occur within the first three places, sending First, Second and Third places still can advance.

The Lottery System

Virginia will also be allowed to enter 2 teams per Challenge, per Level into a Lottery. In order to continue the tradition of the merit-based nature of Global Finals participation, each team that Virginia nominates for the Lottery must meet ONE or more of the following requirements:

• The next ranked team for that Challenge and Level that IS NOT advancing.

• Any team that has placed first in either Central Challenge, Team Choice Elements OR Instant Challenge, but is not already advancing to Global Finals.

• Any team that has received a Renaissance, DaVinci, Spirit of DI OR Torchbearer Award that is not already advancing to Global Finals.

In order to select the teams for the Lottery System, we will use the above criteria until there are 2 teams per Challenge, per Level chosen.

All teams eligible to be in the Lottery will be announced at the conclusion of the Awards Ceremony at Affiliate Finals.

Starting on April 16, 2018, Destination Imagination will begin selecting teams from the Lottery and sending Global Finals Invitations via email. No Lottery invitations will be sent out after April 23, 2018.

Scores will be posted on www.divirginia.org by 8pm on MARCH 24, 2018.
