    Step 1

Cut one 10cm piece of 14 gauge round wire.

    Step 2

Using a pair of needle nose or round nose pliers, grip one end of the 14 gauge round wire and create a small loop.

  • Step 3

Turn the wire so the curve of the small looppoints left.

About 1.5 cm above the small loop, begin to curve the 14 gauge wire towards the left. The peak of the curve should be about 2cmfrom the small loop.

    Step 4

Using a pair of needle nose pliers, pinch the 14 gauge wire, just after the completionof the curve in the previous step, and bend the wire up to create the “dip” of the heart.

    Step 5

For an asymmetrical look, begin to curve the 14 gauge wire towards the left and down towards the loop.

The peak of this second curve should be about 2.5 cm from the small loop at the base of the heart.

  • Step 6

Trim any wire left that extends past the small loop at the base of the heart.

    Step 7

With a second 10cm piece of 14 gauge wire, create another heart by “tracing” the previous heart.

Create the loop on the new wire, then placethis loop on top of the loop of the completed heart. Then continue to shape the heart over the top of the previous heart to assure the shapes and size are the same.

    Step 8

Cut three 15cm pieces of 22 gauge round wire. These will be referred to as the base wires.

Hold these wires horizontally and parallel, with ends even to one another.

Mark or note 1-2cm from left. This will be the starting point for the weave as detailed in the following steps.

  • Step 9

Cut one 200cm piece of 28 gauge round wire. This wire will be referred to as the weaving wire.

Leave a small tail for leverage and coil the weaving wire once or twice around the bottom base wire, or base wire 1, at the mark noted in the previous step.

    Step 10

Wrap the weaving wire over base wires 1 and 2, between 2 and 3, then behind 1 and 2.

    Step 11

Wrap the weaving wire over base wires 1 and 2, between 2 and 3, behind 2, then between 1 and 2.

  • Step 12

Wrap the weaving wire over base wires 2 and 3, behind 2 and 3, then between 1 and 2.

    Step 13

Wrap the weaving wire over base wires 2 and 3, then behind all three base wires.

Steps 3-6 completes one rotation of the 2/2 weave (two coils around two wires, twice).

    Step 14

Complete 15 rotations of the 2/2 weave.

Using finger nails, pinch the ends of the weave in towards one another. This compresses the weave and creates a compact, finished look while adding strength and stability to the final design. All weaves should be compressed in this manner upon completion.

With wire cutters, trim the tail left at the beginning of the weave and discard. Using needle nose pliers, pinch the trimmed end flush against the base wire around which it is wrapped. This will prevent the wire end from catching clothing or scratching skin when worn. Any cut weaving wire should be attended to in this manner.

  • Step 15

Run the 1-2cm (at the beginning of the 2/2 weave) through the small loop of the heart, from front to back. Wrap these three wire ends around the loop to secure.

Curve the 2/2 weave up along the 2.5cm side of the heart, over the top of the 14 gauge wire frame.

    Step 16

Add another rotation of the 2/2 weave, including the heart frame with the 22 gaugewires.

    Step 17

Complete another 10 rotations of the 2/2 weave.

  • Step 18

Curve these last 10 rotations of the 2/2 weave over the 14 gauge wire frame, following the shape of the heart, towards the dip in the center of the heart.

    Step 19

Flip the piece to the back. Trim excess wirefrom the three wire ends wrapped around the loop in Step 15. Pinch these trimmed ends tightly closed around the loop to secure.

    Step 20

Flip the piece back to the front.

Wrap the 2/2 weave wire ends, at the end of the weave, through the center of the heart, from front to back, then around the back of the dip.

  • Step 21

With the weaving wire (still attached), coil three times around the middle base wire.

    Step 22

Coil three times around both the middle and right base wires.

Steps 21-22 completes one rotation of the 3/3 weave (three one-wire coils, three two-wire coils).

    Step 23

Complete 18 rotations of the 3/3 weave, to start.

  • Step 24

Curve the 3/3 weave in a tight clockwise direction over the dip of the heart.

    Step 25

Continue to curve the 3/3 weave down towards the point at the bottom of the heart, along the outside of the 2/2 weave.

Add another 7 rotations of the 3/3 weave.

Curve the end of the 3/3 weave over the small loop at the base of the heart. The 3/3 weave should end at this point. Add or subtract rotations of the weave as necessaryto reach this point.

    Step 26

Run the 3/3 weave wire ends through the center of the heart, from front to back, thenaround the back of the loop at the base of the heart and back over the top of the loop.

  • Step 27

Trim excess wire from the 3/3 weave wire ends and discard. Pinch the trimmed ends flat against the 14 gauge wire, just to the right of the loop.

Trim the weaving wire and set aside for usein the next step.

    Step 28

With the weaving wire (set aside in the previous step), leave a small tail for leverage and coil about 3cm on the remaining base wire.

Once the coil is established, trim the tail left at the beginning of the coil and discard.

    Step 29

Curve the coiled base wire in a clockwise direction along the 3/3 weave, between the 3/3 and 2/2 weave.

The coils should end just past the peak of the left side of the heart.

  • Step 30

Run the weaving wire, from front to back, between the 3/3 and 2/2 weaves.

    Step 31

Flip the piece to the back.

Wrap the weaving wire around the 14 gauge base wire to secure the coiled wire tothe frame.

    Step 32

Run the weaving wire back to the front of the piece and around the 3/3 weave. This will also secure the 3/3 weave to the 14 gauge frame.

  • Step 33

Continue to add coils and run the coiled wire between the 3/3 and 2/2 weaves, towards the loop at the base of the heart.

Trim excess weaving wire and discard.

    Step 34

Wrap the coiled base wire end around the 14 gauge frame, just to the right of the loop.

Do not trim the base wire.

    Step 35

Add a 4mm round bead to the base wire.

Settle this bead on the loop at the base of the heart.

  • Step 36

Secure the bead to the frame, by wrapping the base wire around the frame, just to the right of the loop.

Trim any excess wire from this base wire and discard.

    Step 37

Add an ear wire to the coiled base wire, at the dip in the heart, and repeat all steps (while mirroring) to complete a pair of earrings.

To mirror, it is recommended to complete all steps, for each earring, simultaneously, allowing for the proper placement of the weaves and coils.

Most importantly, have fun and happy weaving! If you should have any questions regarding the content contained in this lesson, please contact me at [email protected]
