Student AdvisersThe Advice Centre provides a free, non-judgemental and confidential service to all GCU students.

The Advice Centre is a Students’ Association service. We are run independently of the university so we can represent and promote the interests of both individual students and the student body as a whole.

There are 3 student advisers, Caroline, Meg and Kirsty, who are employed to help students obtain accurate information on all the services and rights to which they are entitled and to provide support, advice and representation to students who are experiencing difficulties during their time at university.

The Advice Centre is unique on campus in that we are the only service that can offer independent support and representation throughout formal GCU student disciplinary and academic procedures including:

Mitigating Circumstances and Retrospective Mitigating Circumstances

Student Disciplinaries and Plagiarism Investigations

Academic Appeals

Complaints and Harassment issues

Fitness to Practice Procedures

Your student adviser can guide you through these formal procedures, providing initial advice and information, helping to complete the appropriate paperwork, prepare for meetings/hearings and can attend meetings with you as your representative and support person. We offer an on-going service throughout these processes to ensure that you are well informed, supported and understand what is happening at each stage, including staying in contact with you afterwards.

The Advice Centre can offer advice and information on a wide range of issues including:

Accommodation

Employment rights

Health issues (including our Free Condom service)

Financial issues

Exam stress

Problems with your course

Academic regulations

Personal issues

Our student advisers offer confidential listening and support whatever the issue is, and will take the time to help you find a solution.

Free CondomsYou can collect a pack of 12 condoms from any of the 3 student advisers by dropping in during our opening hours.

We are part of the Glasgow-wide Free Condom service run by the Sandyford Initiative and offer a choice of different types of condoms.

The service is unlimited and anonymous. We don’t need to take any information from you and you don’t even need to speak if you’d rather not – you can just point to the type of condoms you would like on a selection card.
