Kenya Land Alliance JOB TITLE: Program Manager SUPERVISOR: Chief Executive Officer DUTY STATION: Nakuru with frequent travel to the project sites Kenya Land Alliance (KLA) is an NGO established to address the problem of inequitable access to and use of land and other natural resources in Kenya. KLA’s programmatic work focuses mainly on (a) implementation of policy, legislative and institutional frameworks on land and natural resources (b) supporting emergence of a movement of land marginalized groups (c) advocating for a democratic framework for management of community land (d) promotion of secure of secure and equitable land rights (e) Carrying out research, documenting and disseminating information on land rights (f) promoting knowledge driven interventions in the land sector. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The management of the KLA Programmes is under the overall supervision and direction of the Chief Executive Officer to ensure that KLA engages with other stakeholders to promote active agency of land marginalized groups towards equitable access, use and control of land. The Programme Manager will manage and coordinate KLA programmatic work, lead fund raising efforts and perform the human resource function with broad responsibilities towards a just society with secure and equitable land rights for sustainable development. Specifically, the Programmes Manager will perform the following tasks; 1. Manage and coordinate KLA programmatic work towards the implementation of policy, legislative and institutional frameworks on land and natural resources. 2. Provide technical support to programme officers in-charge of land rights and social movement building; strengthening community land governance; and knowledge interventions in the land sector through research, documentation and dissemination on land rights. 3. Coordinate Programmes Plans implementation and reporting on programmatic work. 4. Represent KLA in land related activities that promote secure and equitable land rights for sustainable development. 5. Supervise the program officers as may be assigned to support implementation of program activities under him 6. Manage the programmatic work to ensure local, national and regional program conferences, workshops and meetings meet KLA standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Master’s degree or higher in development studies or a land sector related field

Working experience

At least 10 years of management experience 5 of which should be in a senior management position involving supervision of middle and junior level staff.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in managing implementation of programmes

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in proposal writing and fundraising for organizations

Sound understanding of the land and natural resource sector in Kenya

Exposure to Human Resource Management Systems

Previous experience in working with Civil Society Organizations

Skills

Ability to interact with a wide range and levels of stakeholders (Government, Donors, CSOs, Communities, research institutions among others).

Good interpersonal and communication skills

Capacity to meet strict deadlines

Good analytic and IT skills

Demonstrated creativity and innovativeness
