Advent – Waiting For the Lord We know about waiting! Advent literally means ‘coming’. It’s about promises, we wait for them. Three points about waiting: 1. Hope, Biblical hope like Jeremiah 14:22,

“Do any of the idols of the nations bring rain? Do the skies themselves send down showers? No, it is you, O Lord our God. Therefore our hope is in you, for you are the one who does all this.”

Galatians 5:5, “But by faith we eagerly await through the spirit the righteousness for which for which we hope.”

V. 6 “the only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.”

Some healthy anxiety in waiting for something important, something wonderful.

Advent – Waiting For the Lord

Job said (29:21-23), “Men listened to me expectantly, waiting in silence for my counsel. After I had spoken, they spoke no more; my words fell gently on their ears. They waited for me as for showers and drank in my words as the spring rain.”

2. Looking, watching… Psalm 59:9, “O my strength, I watch for you; You, O God, are my fortress, my loving God.”

Advent – Waiting For the Lord

Jesus said, “It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. (Luke 12:37)

Psalm 37: 9 tells us, “Those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land.” =Patience!!

3. Prepared, ready for action. Mark 3:9, “(Jesus) told his disciples to have

a small boat ready for him, to keep the people from crowding him.” = be ready!

Negative example is Psalm 56: 6, where robbers “conspire, they lurk, they watch my steps, eager to take my life.”

Too much info about waiting?? Never forget “Jesus is the Reason for the

Season!” His Presence is the greatest gift, way better

than any presents!

Advent – Waiting For the Lord

Acts 1:6 is also about waiting, only God knows how long we must wait for Jesus to come again.

He expects us to be busy hoping, watching, and being ready to welcome back the Lord and King of the Universe.

Praise and serve him as you wait for the Lord!
