Advanced Trainee Registrar—General Medicine Broome Health Campus (Kimberley Region)

Two positions for 12 months commencing February 2022

The positions are accredited for up to 12 months of Advanced training in General Medicine, though applications for 6 months will be considered if necessary. The trainees are resident in Broome but provide outpatient clinics throughout the Kimberley region in hospitals, remote community clinics and Aboriginal Health Services, spending up to half their time travelling around the Kimberley region by road and aircraft (including light aircraft). The successful applicant will hold current registration as a medical practitioner with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, and be eligible for Advanced Training in General Medicine in 2022 (including successful completion of RACP Part 1 and Part 2 exams). Subspecialty advanced trainees doing dual training in General Medicine are strongly encouraged to apply.

These positions provide a fantastic opportunity to gain extensive experience in Indigenous health and ambulatory and community based medicine in addition to continuing to gain experience in hospital medicine. The majority of patients you will see have multiple complex chronic comorbidities, including conditions such as rheumatic heart disease and some infectious diseases rarely encountered in tertiary hospital settings. Supervision is provided by four long term general medical consultants, whose special interests include respiratory medicine, diabetes, rheumatic heart disease, viral hepatitis, and obstetric medicine. There are also visiting subspecialists (Cardiology, Nephrology, Rheumatology and Dermatology). You will become part of a close knit team that also works closely with primary care providers and multidisciplinary hospital teams. There are opportunities to undertake clinical audit and/or research projects. Out of hours work is minimal, with calls being taken almost entirely by the consultants, so you will also have opportunities when off work to enjoy the beautiful Kimberley environment.

Geographically diverse – the Kimberley boasts pristine white beaches, rugged and spectacular ranges and gorges, palm lined chasms, secluded waterholes, tidal mudflats and some of the largest and most beautiful rivers and waterways in the world. The Kimberley region has the ability to keep people intrigued for many years through the diverse range of activities, rich cultural history, diversity of working experiences and mix of friendly people and unique characters.

Full time (80 hours per fortnight) salary as per WA Health System Medical Practitioners AMA Industrial Agreement 2016:

Registrar Years 1-3, $154,196 - $168,852*

* includes base salary $130,990 to $144,314 pa, professional development allowance $10,107 pa and 10% employer

contributed superannuation. Rates as at February 2021.

Health Service Medical Practitioner Years 1-6 $252,619 to $318,193 pa* * includes base salary $201,641 to $261,254 pa, professional development allowance $30,814 pa and 10% employer contributed

superannuation. Rates as at February 2021.

Please note, employees who move between different WA Department of Health entities will bring their entitlements (annual leave, long

service leave, personal leave) with them. Taking a rural contract is not viewed as a break in service.
