The initial production stage, resulted from the displacement energy naturally existing in a reservoir.

The second stage of operations, usually was implemented after primary production declined.

The three major EOR methods are:

• Miscible (mixing of oil with a solvent)

• Chemical (flooding with chemicals)

• Thermal (application of heat)

Exploration and Production

Recent price increases have led to oil exploration and production in areas where extraction is much more expensive:

Extremely Deep Wells, Extreme Downhole Temperatures and Pressures Depleted Oil and Gas/Condensate Reservoirs Heavy Oils Oil Sands Shale Oil and Shale Gas Environmentally Sensitive Areas
