Two-Stage rotary screw air compressors have been available for over 20 years. Until now, this technology has typically only been available to buyers of 90kW and above models. With the extra flow available, it is possible to use a smaller kW compressor and save on power. Example: If your peak air demand is 9.5 m3/min (335cfm) at 8 Bar, A Westair BMF45II-8 with a 45 kw motor will deliver the air you require. VSD-High Efficiency Permanent Magnet Drive Motor The Interior Permanent Magnet (IPM) motor uses DC power via an inverter to seamlessly speed up and slow down the compressor to match your air demands. After the compressor reaches its off load pressure the motor stops with no off load running. AC induction motors found on most variable frequency drive compressors are limited to the number of times per hour they can stop/start, and therefore, cannot match the efficiency of the IPM motor. The BMF series has an unlimited start-stop ability which can dramatically reduce both total run hours, and power usage.

Highest IPM Motor • Soft start • Variable range of 30-100% • No off load running (22kw – 75kw) • Can dramatically reduce running hours & power consumption • Direct Drive (1:1 ratio) – eliminates gearing or transmission losses Special Dual Housing Oil-Cooled Motor The airend lubricant also cools the motor in a design in which the two housings are incorporated into one, with space left for an oil channel between the inner and outer housing. This design helps cool the motor more efficiently than the traditional air cooling fan system and reduces power consumption (22kw – 75kw). The airend and motor use a simple morse connection which is easy for installation and dismantling.

A two-stage airend offers real world advantages to every compressor installation The BSC Two Stage essentially has two airends, one large low pressure airend, and one smaller high pressure airend, both integrated within the same airend “block”. Atmospheric air enters the low pressure airend and is pressurised to around 50% of the final pressure. The pressurised air then enters the second ‘high pressure boosting airend’ where air is compressed to the final pressure. The lower compression ratios in each airend offer superior volumetric efficiency, lower vibration, lower noise, higher reliability and a lower heat of compression. As a result of these mechanical efficiencies, the two-stage airend can produce more air, which in turn can lead to a lower kW compressor being used to supply your air requirements. With power costs being the greatest cost factor when buying a compressor, this can lead to a significant saving over the life of your air compressor. The standard airend found in most compressors must compress the atmospheric air up to the final discharge pressure in a single-stage and requires more energy and generates more heat.

Super Quiet Noise Levels – Reduced by up to 6dB(A) The large two-stage airend and quality acoustic cabinet result in exceptionally low noise levels. The new model is now one of the quietest rotary screw compressors in it’s class. The Work Health and Safety Code of Practice for managing noise at work, states that 85dB(A) is an acceptable noise level for 8 hours continuous exposure. The BSC two stage range is therefore super quiet and perfect for maintaining a safe workplace.
