Introduction Today’s consumers are looking for demonstrable performance and perceivable benefits from the cleaning products they buy. A new anti-fog polymer/surfactant system developed by Ashland responds to this trend by delivering excellent cleaning performance with outstanding overall anti-fogging properties in an environmentally friendly formulation.

Recent studies at Ashland application laboratories featured a synergistic combination of Gantrez™ S-97 BF polymer solution with Easy-Wet™ 20 wetting agent surfactant in a standardized glass cleaning formula. High-performance cleaning was generated by the use of the powerful wetting and spreading features of the Easy-Wet 20 wetting agent and its ability to lower dynamic surface tension on glass. The Gantrez S-97 polymer enhanced the hydrophilicity of the glass surface and by adhering to the surface, was able to provide long-lasting protection. The combination of these two ingredients in a standardized formula provided cleaning efficacy comparable to a commercial market-leading glass cleaner formulation but with a higher level of anti-fog and anti-mist properties.

Cleaning performance of glass cleaners Anti-fog performanceAfter cleaning, the glass plates were dried in a hood overnight. The plates were then exposed to a water bath (85˚C) for one minute. Glass plates were evaluated visually (see below).

The test formulation performed better than the commercial product and also better than the same formulation without Gantrez S-97 BF polymer solution.
