Read the passage and give the answer: A majority of scientists now agree

that the "ozone hole" developed over the Antarctica due to the greatly increased use of Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). Though they were regarded as chemically inert materials, under conditions in the atmosphere with intense solar radiation CFCs have reacted with ozone.


Passage continued . . . As the chlorine oxide amounts

increased,, the ozone amount in the stratosphere (which protect the earth from the sun’s ultraviolet radiation) fell. A wide range of effects through "ozone hole" was expected: skin cancers, damage to crops and animals and changes in the worlds weather patterns.


Passage continued . . Some international agreements

including the Earth Summit (1992) contain provisions to reduce the release of CFCs and other harmful chemicals drastically by 2000 AD. The limit set by the European Union include complete phasing out by 1994 of Halons, the range of compounds containing Bromine used in fire extinguishers, as these are considered very harmful to atmospheric ozone.


The heightened awareness in recent years keep earth’s environment free of pollutants has produced one salutary effect in the form of two innovations:

(1) the first CFC-free refrigerator made by a German firm DKK in 1992, using propane and butane as the coolant and pentane for the insulating foam (2)New engine fitted to jet aircraft to generate less oxides of nitrogen (NOX) which are damaging to ozone.

Maths question: A,B,C had to go 100 kms. A had a

motorcycle by which he could go@25 kmph. Walking is done @5kmph. A picks up B, while C walks, after sometime A drops B , B moves on , A comes back picks up C and all of them reach at the same time. a. At what distance B was dropped b. Motorcyclists traveled how many kms? c. Journey is of how many hours? d. A picked up C at what distance?


Answer : A cannot take 4 or more hours with B (4

hours means 100 KM). So let us try with 3 KM. A will travel 75 Km. Now C is at 15 KM. now A returns back.[(75-15)/(25+5)] 60/30 = 2 hours, thus A will take 2 hours to return back to C. now A and C will travel for 50 +25 = 75 KM in 3 hours. B will also reach with them (5 hours * 5 KM) Total time: 8 hours.


. 5 women & 7 men can complete a work in 8 days, 3 women & 10 men complete it in 6 days, then 10 men and 10 women will complete the work in how many days. 5w+7M=1/8, 2nd equation: 3W+10M =1/6 Multiply first equation by 3 and 2nd by 5, we get:

29M = 5/6 – 3/8 29M = 22/48 or M = 11/ (24*29). Put the value of M in first equation : 5 W = 1/8 – 77/(24*29), W = 10 / (24*29). = 10/ 696 Thus we get 100/696 + 110/696 or 210/696 Or 696 / 110 = 6.32 days.


What is the smallest number that is divided by 8,9 leaving a remainder of 3 in both the cases.

Take LCM of 8 & 9. We get 72 Let us add 3 in this We get 75 as answer.


What is the smallest number that is divided by 5 and 8 leaving a remainder of 2 and 5 respectively.

Let us take LCM of 5 & 8. We get 40 Let us deduct 3 from this (5-2 or 8-5). Thus we get 37 as the answer.


Number of factors of 72? Out of these how many are odd? How many will be perfect squares? How many will be prime factors. Let us take factorisation of 72. let us start

by dividing by 2. 2*2*2*3*3 Thus we have 3 two and 2 three. Thus (4 * 3) -1 = 11 factors of 72 (we can

verify this : (2,3,4,6,8,9,12,24,18, 36,72). Out of these we have 4,9,36 as perfect squares and we have 2 prime numbers = 2,3


A beats B by 30 mts in a 100 mts. Race , B beats C by 40 mts. In a 100 mts. Race, A will defeat C by how much in a 400 mts race.

When A completes 100 meters, B completes 70 meters. When B completes 100 meters, C completes 60 meters. When B travels 70, B will travel for 60 *70/100 = 42 thus A will defeat C by 58 meters. Thus in 400 meters, A will defeat C by 58 *4 = 232 meters answer.
