Welcome to our Adult Education Summer 2013 programme.

This brochure is organised in subject sectors to make it easy for you to find suitable workshops, with colour coded subjects, as shown on the left.

Unless otherwise indicated, summer workshops are one day long: 10.30am – 4.30pm.

Once again we are delighted to open our doors and bring you our popular summer programme which is full of one day workshops and short courses to work in with your plans for the summer.

Our summer programme continues to go from strength to strength with more people booking their place than ever before and with a mixture of new workshops and old favourites, we are confident we offer something for everyone. All our classes are non-accredited, but through the support and feedback of your tutor you will be aware of your development and suitable progression routes.

The Brewery actively promotes equal opportunities throughout the organisation and practises an inclusive policy towards all members of the community. All the Brewery tutors and staff are committed to offering an excellent standard of service and high quality classes to all our students.

We feel the programme caters for all levels of ability and are happy to advise you on the suitability of a course. Course information sheets with further details on each course are available on request or you will be automatically sent one if you enrol onto a course.

GRIZEDALE FORESTWe are proud to be continuing our partnership with the Forestry Commission this summer offering students the chance to experience painting in Grizedale Forest as part of our NEW Watercolour Summer School (page 5).

Carborundum PrintingTutor: Iain SloanThis two day workshop will explore how to use carborundum powder and other gritty materials to create areas of tone and texture. Carborundum allows you to print strong, rich colour and is an excellent way to explore expressive brushwork and mark-making.It is very exciting to experiment with and can be combined with etching and collagraph printing. Enrolling on a workshop at the Brewery Arts Centre is easy, all you need to do is:

Complete the enrolment form, found in the centre of this brochure, and include your payment. Enrolment forms are also available at Box Office or downloadable from our website at www.breweryarts.co.uk

Places are limited and secured on a first come, first served basis so it’s important to return your form early.

FeesThree fees are stated for some courses. All fees (even full price fees) are subsidised by Cumbria County Council and are available for the following categories only.

Fee A Full FeeFee B 20% discount for learners over 60 on the 1st September 2012 who are not in employment for more than 16 hours per weekFee C 50% discount for learner in receipt of: Job Seekers Allowance (JSA), Pension Guarantee Credit, Income Support, Working Tax Credit (subject to a threshold of less than £15,276) Housing / Council Tax Benefit (not including single occupancy discount), Income Related Employment Support Allowance (ESA), Unwaged dependents of those listed above.

Students claiming aged- based concessions need only show proof once. Students claiming any other discounted fee need to provide proof of concession each time they enrol. Please ensure all paperwork has the correct date. Please note that the ‘NHS Exemption Tax Credit’ card is not acceptable as proof of Working Tax Credit Status.

Students should be aware some courses incur additional costs for materials and equipment. For more information refer to your course information sheets.

PaymentsPayments can be made in two ways:

a) Payment by cheque - payable to KBACTL or Brewery Arts Centre. Please include a separate cheque for each course/workshop you wish to attend.

b) Credit or debit card. Complete the appropriate section on the enrolment form. Please check card details are correct to avoid enrolments being delayed.

Don’t forget We will need a separate enrolment form for each learner.

Please return completed forms to our Box Office by hand or post ensuring all the necessary paperwork and payments are included.

What happens next?We will confirm your enrolment by post. If the course is full, you will be put onto our waiting list and contacted should a place become available.

AbsencesPlease let your tutor know if you are unable to attend a course session for any reason. This is because unrecorded absences have a negative effect on our funding. Three unrecorded absences will result in the cancellation of your place on a course and no refund will be given.
