What our families say:lI learnt more about multicultural cooking for my family and tried foods I wouldn’t usually eat.lI met other people and made new relationships.lI learnt some more English and tried new things.lThe course gave me masses of confidence.lThe course has been relaxed, it was easy to ask questions so I have found it easy.
What can we learn? There are a wide variety of courses from Keeping up with the Children to Fun with Numbers, Story Sacks and Family Literacy. We also offer Money Matters to help with family budgeting and many craft and cookery courses.
Next steps…Many parents move on to other adult learning programmes, such as Functional Skills English and maths, or training for employment. Some of our learners have successfully gained employment in schools and children’s centres.

9 – 1 GCSE GradingThe grading of GCSE exams is changing and will be awarded for the first time for the 2017 exam results. Initially this change will be applied to maths and English. It is the intention that by 2019, all GCSEs will use the new system.New GCSEs will be graded 9–1, rather than A*–G, with grade 5 considered a good pass and grade 9 being the highest and set above the current A*.The aim of the new grading system is to enable greater differentiation of candidates’ performance, particularly between higher achieving students. The following diagram illustrates the link between the old and new systems:
