Adrián Froufe was born on August 20, 1985 in Madrid. Since his child-hood he has been attracted by rather diverse subjects such as music, design and history.

During four years he studied a BA in History at the Universidad Au-tónoma of Madrid, taking the specialty of medieval history, as well as enjoying a scholarship at the University of Helsinki (Finland) during one year. Later he studied Graphic Design at CICE (Madrid), where he found it was the right place to consolidate in a professional way all his previous initiatives.

He started to study Product Design at the Istituto Europeo di Design (Madrid).

During this education period he has undertaken several projects and participated in different workshops as “Second Skin” with Paloma Canivet (2009), “MadridDesignNet”(2010), “Materia Transcendente” with Ciszak Dalmas(2011), “Gravity” with Raw Edges(2011), “Designing locally for global market” with Sigga Heimis(2011) or “Liquid Fusion” with Paul Haigh&Corning Museum of Glass(2011). In 2009 he took part in the exhibition “Flower Power” during the ‘Noche en blanco’ in Madrid; a creative event organised and funded by the local govern-ment of the Community of Madrid.

He worked as Communication Manager of Domaine de Boisbuchet – Summer Workshops.

In 2012, he finished a master in Industrial Design at Scuola Politecnica di Design (Milan) and worked as assistant in Inoda+Sveje. Presently he is working as freelance.

Although at first glance it may appear as simply a decorative piece, “tum…” is designed for interaction, with the user generating different sounds by tapping on the surface with their hands. By blocking all the holes with corks and modulating the sound with the palm of the hand, the only limit is our imagination. Several can also be joined together, increasing the range of possible sounds.

The pieces are crafted from white clay and cork.

EESTUL

LightPaths is a new way to discover Madrid in that the project makes it possible to traverse the city both by day and by night.

Lightpaths allows us to generate routes all around town. From historical routes through Madrid, to events such like ‘Noche en blanco’ or ‘El día de la Tapa’. These trails are marked by the strategic positioning of “LightLocks” which can be hooked to lamp posts, railings and tree branches.

The “LightLock” is made of translucent plastic. When it’s illuminated from within, the entire object shines and show us the way forward.

AAMOEBECON

Page 26: Adrian Froufe's Portfolio

This reinterpretation seeks to break away completely from the aesthetics of the original Amoebe chair, designed by Panton.

Faced with the colorful style, popular in the 70s, this redesign uses reinforced concrete, typical of Brutalist architecture. Two steel bars protrude from one of the sides, allowing the seat to be connected to another by meeting the bars with two corresponding holes on the second chair.

While the original Amoebe was designed for sophisticated interiors, the durability of concrete used in the new design enables it to be left outdooors, and it could even be used to furnish public areas.

Everything on nature is a cycle; like a tree. It borns, raise, transform, lost all the leaves and then blossom again in a long cycle.

Betula is a low chair that, starting from this concept, wants to measure a cycle of 365 days. Betula has a pattern made with 365 small birch veneer pieces with birch seeds in the back.

Everyday the user can take off one of this pieces recording the pass of the time and allowing us to create our perso-nal pattern. Furthermore, it’s possible to plant each piece to grow a new tree. In that way we’re making completing again the cycle of the tree; using the wood to make a chair and planting new ones.

The project was created jointly with Juan Soriano and Mar-cela Casarotto during the Industrial Design Master course at SPD (Milan).

100x100 is a brand dedicated to organic food that seeks to create links between rural producers and urban con-sumers and tries to improve the quality of the products we consume in our day to day lives.

In addition, we have sought to give this brand a new and attractive aesthetic component that breaks with the classic image of organic and environmentally friendly products.

Page 33: Adrian Froufe's Portfolio

All packaging of 100x100, except for the obvious ele-ments, is made of the same material: corrugated car-dboard, to which the seeds of various local herbs are added in the manufacturing process.

When the container is no longer useful, it can be plan-ted and the seeds will sproud. Thus, the idea of recy-cling takes on a different dimension to the traditional: From our waste we can generate life.

Final Project Thesis Product Design, made in 2011 with the assistance of Frédéric Misik.
