KNIGHTS HISTORY
Pope Benedict XVI in his first encyclical, Deus Caritas Est,
wrote that a Christian must have “a heart which sees” –that
is, which “sees where love is needed and acts accordingly.”
For Knights, this often means recognizing where people are
most in need and responding with material or volunteer
support. After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2011,
the Order delivered immediate assistance to the families of
fallen first responders. And when natural disasters struck,
such as Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and the Haitian earthquake
in 2011, Knights similarly responded with immediate aid.
And last year, the Order donated $500,000 to the victims of
Hurricane Sandy.

I WON’T STOP PRAYING “Set your mind on things that are above, not on things
that are on earth, for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” Colossians 3:3
Lord, in the midst of much inner turmoil and restlessness, there is a consoling thought: maybe you are working in me in a way I cannot yet feel, experience or understand. My mind is not able to concentrate on you, my heart is notable to remain centered, and it seems as if you are absent and have left me alone. But in faith I cling to you. I believe that your Spirit reaches deeper and further than my mind or heart, and that profound movements are not the first to be noticed. Therefore, Lord, I promise I will not run away, not give up, not stop praying, even when it all seems useless, pointless, and a waste of time and effort. I want to let you know that I love you even though I do not feel loved by you, and that I hope in you even though I often experience despair. Let this be a little dying I can do with you and for you as a way of experiencing some solidarity with the millions in this world who suffer far more than I do.

I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.
Open my eyes to the brightness of your Light, O Lord. Warm me with your brilliant presence. Let your love stream down
upon me when I find myself dwelling in darkness. Shine your grace into my heart, and chase away the bleak pockets of sin that still try to infiltrate my soul. Let me be a shining light of
love and grace to those I know who still reside in dark spaces, that their lives may be filled with your Light of life.
Amen.
