Scientific Name-Quereus Alba (Latin)
Belong to the Beech Family ( Fagaceae)
Illinois State tree since 1973
White Oaks have male and female flowers.
The male flowers are greenish-yellow, catkins up to four inches long, which hang from twigs.• Catkin - A thick, cylinder-shaped cluster of flowers on a tree. Catkins often droop.
Some larger animals, such as Raccoons and Opossums, use White Oaks as dens if they have become hollow.
