2 Australia District News

The historic visit of our Chief Apostle to Sydney in September this year has definitely made its mark in the history of our district. As he stepped behind the altar in the Sydney Opera House on Sunday 21 September, the joy of everyone gathered there was evident. In the lead-up to this visit the expectations had grown to extremely high levels. The occasion certainly did not disappoint.

The Sunday afternoon Concert in the world renowned Sydney Opera House was an outstanding event with the choristers and musicians bringing praise and honour to our Heavenly Father through the enormous talents that they shared with us. Our Chief Apostle remarked how amazed he was that they could perform with such unity given that they had not been able to practice together

as they came from all corners of our geographically huge district. Sincere congratulations go to all who participated in the concert on a wonderful and well-received result.

Worthy of praise to all who attended is that the staff of the Sydney Opera House commented on the level of talent that was displayed and also on the orderliness and dignity with which the whole event was carried out. They stated that they were in awe over the way “our group” did everything so orderly and efficiently and they had “never experienced anything like this before”. Again, sincere thanks go to everyone who contributed to this historic event. Obviously, this Chief Apostle visit is the feature of this edition of the Australia District News.

Dear Brothers and Sisters

Page 3: Adnsummer2014forweb

Since this visit we have experienced the blessed celebration of Thanksgiving in our district. This was again a great day as reported by all congregations throughout our district. It is a great blessing that as God’s children we understand the true value of God’s gifts to us and we also understand the value of thankfulness.

We were recently advised that the New Apostolic Church magazine “Our Family” will not be published after the end of 2014. Instead, a new international publication titled “commUnity” will be published every 3 months from March 2015 onwards. Final details are still emerging regarding the type and extent of content it will have. It is presently envisaged that we will continue to publish the Australia District News also every 3 months.

Further details will be advised as more details regarding “commUnity” come to hand.

We now enter the festive season and I take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for your dedication to and support of God’s work in our district. I wish you and your loved ones a blessed Christmas and a very happy and successful New Year.

With loving greetings

Andrew H. Andersen

4 Australia District News

Chief Apostle Schneider arrived into Sydney late on Thursday evening 18 September, just in time to celebrate the last hour of his birthday on Australian soil. Although he had travelled for the past 24 hours, the joy that he felt to be in the midst of the brothers and sisters of the Australia district was evident. Accompanying the Chief Apostle on this visit were District Apostle Rüdiger Krause from Hamburg, Germany and District Apostle Mark Woll from Waterloo, Canada. District Apostle Andersen, Apostles Hungito, Lodewick, Pouru, Wasimbai and Williams and Bishops Green and Yasi were also in attendance, as were the district ministers from around Australia and New Zealand. On Friday District Apostle Andersen took pleasure in showing off the beautiful Sydney backdrop. A harbour cruise on what was a typical warm and sunny Spring day gave the visitors an opportunity to experience Sydney Harbour at its best. On Saturday the Chief Apostle conducted a meeting for the Apostles and Bishops. During this meeting each of the Apostles gave a presentation to the Chief Apostle to provide a detailed insight into the work that is being done in their working areas. Saturday also provided an opportunity for the choristers, musicians, Sunday School children, youth and members

to gather at the Knox Grammar School for choir and orchestra practice and fellowship together with local and visiting brothers and sisters. This event served to increase the joy and excitement felt by all who were in attendance. The many hours of practice that had taken place prior to this weekend were obvious, and the chance to spend time with fellow brethren from all over the Australia district over a cuppa and a sausage sizzle was enjoyed by all. The highlight of the weekend was of course the divine service conducted by the Chief Apostle in the main Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House. The Chief Apostle, District Apostles, Apostles and Bishops were welcomed to the venue with a song performed by the Sunday School children. The Chief Apostle then spent a few moments with the children explaining to them the important responsibilities that they have both in the church and in their society. The numerous challenges that had to be overcome in order to host the divine service in such an iconic venue were insignificant in comparison to the blessings that were received under the word of the Chief Apostle and District Apostles who served. One such challenge was negotiating the barriers and roadblocks that had been erected for the Sydney marathon which was held in and around the CBD and Opera House precinct on Sunday morning. Like many other brothers and sisters the Chief Apostle and his party found it

necessary to cross the running track in order to make their way to the venue. As a break in the group of marathon runners appeared, a marshall directing pedestrians instructed the Chief Apostle’s party to “Go, go, go!” The Chief Apostle used these words as a directive to the congregation to embrace in their work of faith. After the divine service many members took advantage of eating their pre-arranged lunch packs in and around the Sydney Opera House and spending further time in fellowship with each other before returning to the Concert Hall. The concert that was held in the afternoon was a showcase of the talents of our choristers and musicians throughout our district. The very high standard that was produced by our combined choir, orchestra, children and youth is a testament to the dedication of the music leaders and those who attended the practices. The staff at the Sydney Opera House could not believe that the only combined practice had taken place just a day prior to the event and they were extremely complimentary in their comments about the high standard produced.

Close to 1500 members were in attendance in the Sydney Opera House, with many others connected to the transmission in various congregations around Australia, New Zealand, parts of Papua New Guinea and Fiji.

“Forward with Faith”CD Recording

Early in 2014 District Apostle Andersen announced the intention for the choirs and orchestras around Australia and New Zealand to produce a CD, the first time a project of this kind was undertaken on a district level.

The CD was completed as part of the preparations for the Chief Apostle visit to Sydney.

The various choirs, orchestras, Sunday School children and soloists spent many hours rehearsing their pieces, until the day of recording finally arrived. After several months of post production, the CD was delivered in time for the Chief Apostle’s visit and the District Apostle was proud to present the finished product to the Chief Apostle and visiting District Apostles during their stay in Sydney. A copy of the CD has also been sent to each District Apostle around the globe.

The standard of the CD that has been produced is exceptional, and many of the brethren who have already purchased a copy have expressed their great delight at the end result.

The outstanding quality is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our music leaders, choristers, musicians and children and many thanks go to all who were involved with this project.

The CD can be purchased either online or through your Rector.

Priced at AU$15.00 / NZ$20.00, the CD makes an ideal gift for the person who has everything!
