Camp for Incoming Freshmen

All incoming freshmen are invited to join us from Tuesday, July 21-

Thursday, July 23 for MyNDJourney. Rocco Mansueto, Freshmen Guid-

ance Counselor and Director of Student Services, along with Laura

Goodhard, Director of Admissions, will lead the camp. Students will

make new friends, become more familiar with Notre Dame, learn study

skills, and have FUN!

This camp is free, but students are required to register: http://goo.gl/

Placement Tests

All incoming 9th graders are required to take a math placement test. Each student takes a math class every year at Notre Dame, but we all start and stop at different places, de-pending upon our academic gifts, opportunities for improvement, goals, etc. The place-ment test is not a grade, nor can students study for it. We use it merely as an additional indicator of what math your child should take for next year. The test takes approx. 30-45 minutes, and students will solve problems on paper (i.e., it's not a multiple-choice stand-ardized test, but rather an exercise our math dept. chair has developed specific to NDHS's curriculum). Students should bring pencils and a calculator (whichever one they use for their current math class is fine).

Monday, May 23: 5:00 (Math Placement —required) 5:30 (foreign language—optional) Tuesday, May 24: 2:00 (Math Placement—required) 2:30 (foreign language—optional)

Following the required math test, we will give an optional World Languages placement test for those students who wish to try to test into the Honors second-year course of a particular language (French, Spanish, or German). Most 9th graders at ND start with the first-year course, but occasionally students have taken multiple years of a given lan-guage at their middle schools. Students wishing to see if they're ready to take the second-year course in 9th grade should register to stay after the math test for a 30-minute foreign language test. In total, testing for these students should take about an hour. Register Here: http://goo.gl/forms/b0HKfDqYWo

“Branch out and try new things. Never in a million years would

I have expected to be a dancer at Notre Dame, but it’s proba-

bly the thing I’ll miss the most. Push yourself to try new

things that scare you because those things will influence your

life the most.”- Mary Connell, ND ‘16, Mercer ‘20

“Be willing to try new things and even once you’ve found

your niche, stay open minded to ideas a people you might

meet. You could meet your best friend by simply

saying hello.”

-Alex Darras, ND ‘16, Furman ‘20

“Actually pay attention to your grades freshmen and

sophomore year. They do count towards your GPA and

can make your life very difficult later on if you’re not

careful.” -Chris Boettner, ND ‘16, Auburn ‘20

“The next 4 years will be about finding your friends and

your faith, but also about finding yourself. There’s no

better place to do so than Notre Dame, so get out

there. Try new activities and take risks because it’s all

shaping you into a wonderful person I know you’ll be-

come.” -Allison Hoffer, ND ’16, Belmont ’20
