Welcome to our weekly newsletter, we hope all our families are well. Please remember if we can help you or you would like to speak to a member of staff please call our temporary number 01842 753993 or email the academy office. The academy continues to work closely with Eastern Multi Academy Trust leaders and our Academy Council (Governing body) to ensure we are following the latest guidance from the government. We understand this continues to be a strange time for many families and although some of you have settled into routines, some of you are still establishing them. One parent I spoke to last week described it as being in the same storm but in different boats. Everyone is experiencing this change in a different way. BUT we are still here at the academy to help all our families in anyway we can. If you would like any support or advice please check our website or call to speak with one of our staff. The office is open until 3pm everyday. We are all missing our children and families and over the next few weeks teachers will be informally calling you to speak with your children. This is an informal call to make sure your children still know how important they are to us. If we are unable to speak with you we will leave a message, please ring back the academy and we can arrange a more convenient time. We continue to set home learning, some activities are planned for VE day, however these are optional. Please contin-ue to send in examples of your home learning. It has been great for the staff to see the amazing work!!

We know lots of you are still reading lots at home, well done, keep up the great work. Your children will benefit from reading stories more than once and talking about the characters, setting and plot with you. Story time with Nick is a daily you tube clip of new story being read. Hello, Mrs Hall (SENCO) here, I hope that you are all keeping safe.

As we move through this period of home learning we are all adjust to both working from home and keeping our children engaged in learning. This creates strains on all our mental health and well being so it is important that we have regular breaks and take advantage of our daily exercise. However there are times when our children can find situations difficulty, I have attached some strategies that you may find helpful. These are for all children including those with SEND.

Sensory Strategies to support your child

5 Senses Grounding Strategy

(works well when in melt down mode but helpful to practise before you need it)

Tell me 5 things you can see.

Tell me 4 things you can hear.

Tell me 3 things you can touch or feel (touch the table/feel hungry).

Tell me 2 things you can smell.

Tell me 1 thing you can taste.

Muscle Tension and Relaxation

Start at feet, point your toes to tense and count to 5 then relax.

Legs, flex muscles, count to 5 then relax.

Belly, crunch like you would do for a sit-up, count to 5 then relax.

Shoulders, bring shoulders to your ears, count to 5 and relax.

Biceps, flex muscles, count to 5 and relax.

Hands, make a tight fist, count to 5 and relax.

Deep Breathing

(again, helpful to practise before you need it)

Inhale deeply through your nose, filling your belly.

Exhale forcefully through your mouth like you are blowing out a candle or blowing a feather.

Youtube page Raleigh now has its own Youtube page where a range of video clips to support learning are being uploaded by our staff. Y1 or 2 can access the learning videos they need through the daily learning timetable. Click onto the blue links. Everyone in all year groups can also access these through our website. Click on the Learning at home tab, there is a video drop down. In here you can open different types of vide- os for example phonics, maths and stories read by teach- ers. The link will take you straight through to the video on Raleigh You tube.

Purple Mash is being used as one of our online learning platforms https://2simple.com/parents This link takes you to a parent guide https://www.purplemash.com/login/ If you need a new password please contact the academy.

Most of you are now very familiar with Purple Mash but here is a reminder Home—Click on this to take you to the home page, here you can access a variety of games and activities to play. 2Do jobs –Click to see what activities have been set by your class teacher for your child. This is mainly for Y1 and Y2 but recep-tion have been set some activities here. Once an activity is complete, it will ask you to submit this to your class teacher. They will then know what your child has done. Sharing -Click on sharing to access your child’s class blog. Click on shared blogs, this will allow you to open up your class blog. Click on the large + sign to open a message box. This is a great way for your child to send messages to their friends and class teacher.

To upload work on Purple Mash (for Y1 and Y2) Click on the Yellow Work Folder Click on upload

This box will appear, click to upload a document from your laptop (this could be a photo of your child’s work)

Your class teacher will now be able to see any written work you have sent. Many of you are already doing this which is great!! If you have any problems please contact the academy.

Or if you prefer add your work to your child’s blog. If you can’t do either don’t worry please keep it until we return to school.

We wish all of families good health and well being at this time. The Raleigh team will continue to work hard for all of our chil-dren and their families. We are pleased to say Mrs Peck has joined the team and is now the class teacher for Reliable Race Cars in Reception. Mrs Peck is a permanent member of our team and is enjoying meeting some of you in person and some

of you with comments through tapestry.
