C A R P A R K The Administration carpark is closed each school day between 9.00am and 3.15pm, to allow our senior students more space during recess and lunch. Guests are still able to access the administration building during the day by parking in front of the mosque and walking through the mosque gates.

Each day we see many parents speeding in the car parks. As you can imagine this is extremely dangerous especially when smaller children pop out between cars or have cars stop in the middle of the driveways to let their children in/out of their cars. Please follow the direction of our staff on duty and keep in line with the speed on the school grounds at all times.

Many of our staff have also noted that parents are driving without their children restrainined in their cars. Even in the carpark, children must wear their seatbelts. Serious accidents can happen at only 5km per hour so please ensure your children are restrained correctly prior to you driving.

L U N C H E S / B O O K S / H O M E W O R K E T CWe are being inundated with parents arriving at the front office thorughout the entire day with their child’s lunch, forgotten homework, books, uniform etc. Please ensure that your child has a healthy packed lunch in their school bag and all their required items before they leave home in the morning to avoid being turned away when arriving at the Administration Office.

S T U D E N T A P P O I N T M E N T STo avoid disruption to your child’s learning it is requested that medical or other appointments for your children are made outside of school hours.

S P A R E C L O T H I N GWe have many younger students presenting to the front office due to bathroom accidents. For parents with children in Foundation and Year 1, can you please provide an extra pair of pants, underwear and socks in their school bags.

L A T E A R R I V A L S A N D E A R L Y D I S M I S S A L S We are still experiencing many students arriving late each day. School commences at 8.50am and all students are expected to arrive ontime. If you are finding heavy traffic you can leave 10 minutes earlier each day, this will ensure an early arrival.

If your child is required to be collected early due to an appointment, please advise the Administration Office so they can have your child waiting for you in the foyer. Students who fall ill during the day will be contacted by the Nursing staff for collection from the First Aid Department.

Parents are also asked to be off the school grounds by 8.45am as this poses an OH&S issue and conjestion in the Administration foyer.V I S I T O R SAny parent, guardian or visitor must report to the Administration Office and sign in prior to entering the College grounds. This is necessary especially in the event of an emergency and also for the safety of all our staff and students.

A M e s s a g e f r o m A d m i n

S T U D E N T I D C A R D SAll students should now have their new ID cards, please ensure that your child keeps their ID card in their school bag at all times. If your child has lost their ID card or left it at home they must go to the Administration Office to organise a replacement - a $5 fee will apply.

Infections in school children are common. Everyone is susceptible to infection. Our College has a duty of care to ensure infection control is practiced amongst all of its current students and school staff.

Students with cold or flu-like symptoms, vomiting or diarrhoea should seek medical attention, limit contact with others and stay at home until symptoms have passed. If your child becomes ill at school with these symptoms, the nurses will contact the family and arrange for the collection of the child. If your child has an infectious condition, you are required to keep them away from school or childcare to stop the condition spreading to other children or people in the community. Different exclusion periods apply to different infectious diseases for cases and contacts, therefore please refer to the link below. https://www2.health.vic.gov.au/public-health/infectious-

diseases/school-exclusion

Infections can spread in a variety of ways: the five most common routes are:1 Through the gastrointestinal

tract, (intestines and faeces) e.g. infectious diarrhoea and hepatitis A.

2 Through the respiratory tract, (eyes, nose, mouth and lung secretions) e.g. colds and influenza.

3 Through direct contact, (skin contact, contact with saliva and other body fluids), e.g. bacterial skin infections such as impetigo, molluscum contagiosum, scabies, and through indirect contact with surfaces or materials such as pencils, handkerchiefs, soiled clothing and crockery and cutlery which have been contaminated by germs, e.g. influenza and the common cold.

4 Through contact with infected blood e.g. hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV/AIDS.

5 Through ingestion of contaminated food or water e.g. food poisoning.

You can help prevent and control the transmission of infectious diseases in schools and to promote health within the school community by following the steps below.

HandwashingIt is the single most effective way to prevent the spread of infections. Clean hands can stop germs from spreading from one person to another and throughout an entire community.

Exclusion from school It is important to stay at home and recover if you are sick. By doing so, you will help prevent others from catching your illness. Avoid close contact with others during the infectious period.

EducationBe informed about signs, symptoms and prevention of diseases. Share information with your friends and

family. Learning how diseases are transmitted can help to actively prevent the spread of disease.

Disinfect surfacesClean and disinfect surfaces or objects. Focus especially on frequently touched surfaces.

VaccinateEnsure that you/your child vaccination is up to date. Many of the diseases can be prevented by vaccines.

Seek medical attentionVisit your GP when ill to get diagnosed and treated properly.

It is helpful to us as a school community to have a good communication with you at all times. The more information we have, the more we can help your child be healthy and to succeed in school. Do not hesitate to contact any of the nurse at 9269 5055 - Roslyn / 5061 -Wendy / 5084 – Johora or book an appointment with us so that we can be of any assistance to advocate for your child’s healthcare needs.

Y E A R 3 It’s time to share what our Year 3 students were up to in Term 3. This term, our students excitedly participated in the Spelling Bee Contest. It was so pleasing to see our students spell difficult words accurately.

Our Islamic Department provided the students with the opportunity to go through the Hajj Experience during ‘Hajj and Masjid Al Aqsa Week’. Wow! What a great feeling it was to take our children through the Hajj process. It was definitely a memorable experience.

Not only this, we also held ‘Art Week’ where students proudly showcased their creative side by decorating their scarves and beanies in many different ways.

Y E A R 4Term 3 started on an exciting note with events that engaged students and families on their journey into the second semester.

In Week 2, we held our first Monday morning assembly. Then Parent-Teacher Interviews were held during Week 3. We also had the Year 4 Spelling Bee Inter Class Competition. Lots of excitement and a super speller was selected to represent the Year 4s. All the participants from each class were awarded certificates. Prior to Eid Week, students participated in Hajj practice. Students were able to research and had hands on experience with erosion experiments. During Week 9, the Year 4s will be attending a Science Incursion in connection to their Integrated Studies topic: Weathering and Erosion.

Year 4 students are prepared for more productive learning experiences to extend and challenge their capable minds. They are all ready for more challenges and events.

This term, 3G got the chance to compete in the Spelling Bee. We had a tough competition and I smashed it!Competing against the other grades was tough. I had to spell scrimshaw, it was hard but I did it! I feel so good representing the school.Bilal Basha 3G

In Term 3, we had a hajj Practice Day. We came in white dresses for that day. We practiced walking around the Ka’bah. We also went around Safa and Marwa 7 times. Later, Sheikh Warsame gave a talk and then we all made dua for the people on hajj to be safe.Lastly, we had Zam Zam water and we made Dua again. It was a great experience.Ayesha 3D

Let’s see what our students had to share with us.

Y 3 - 5 N e w s ( c o n t ’ d )

Y E A R 5The months of July and August were the busiest so far for our Year 5 students.

Parent-Teacher Interviews were held in July. The huge attendance from the parents/guardians and family were very much appreciated by the College and staff. In the following weeks, our Year 5 students were introduced to Debating lessons during English classs by Ladina. These lessons allowed the students to hone their oral skills through debating lessons incorporated in their English class. Spelling Bee was also in July whereby all the Year 5 students were given a chance to showcase their spelling knowledge. The Media Road Show also took place in the early weeks of August. Year 5 students learnt a lot about acting, singing, hosting and animation through the Incursion.

July and August were indeed truly busy months for the Year 5 students but they are looking forward to another productive and challenging Term 4 ahead!

It has indeed been an eventful term for our SEEP students. Earlier in the term, we had the “World of Maths” incursion that allowed our students to engage in rich mathematical tasks and brain teasers. It was a pleasant experience for all of them as they saw the importance of logical thinking and reasoning in Mathematics. Grade 3 SEEP students had their inter-school “Maths Games Competition” excursion which was a successful event organised by Ms Shabana Chowdhury. Grade 5 SEEP organised and conducted a Maths Games Competition for Grade 4 SEEP. It was yet another session where both groups of students were immersed in Mathematical thinking and enjoying Maths outside of the standard classroom context.

4I held a SEEP open classroom for their parents to visit the classroom and experience the learning environment of SEEP classrooms. It was student-led and allowed parents to view this term’s learning from their child’s perspective.

We hope to continue collaborating with students, teachers and parents to not only maximise student learning but also to make their SEEP journey a joyous and memorable one.

S E N I O R S C H O O LTerm 3 is the time in the senior school when planning for the following year takes place. Most importantly it’s when students are asked to make decisions about their respective study pathways for the following year. Over the course of this term all students had the opportunity to explore their options. The College established a comprehensive course counselling program so as to insure that both students and parents made the best informed decision.

Y E A R 1 2As we approach the mid-way point of Term 3 students and teachers were heavily involved in completing the curriculum requirements. This was especially the case with our Year 12 VCE and VCAL programs. The completion of this term is effectively their last, with the early part of Term 4 focused on revision followed by the VCAA examination period for VCE students commencing on 30 October.

One of the most significant events at this time of the year for Year 12 students is to ensure that all students are supported towards a meaningful post-secondary pathway. In order to achieve this, the Year 12 Students were recently counselled on the VTAC application process, focusing on selecting tertiary and TAFE pathways for 2020.

In the coming months, a number of activities have been organised for our Year 12 students. These events are to celebrate their time as students at the College, they include a breakfast, some excursions and the Graduation Ceremony.

Y E A R 1 0 & Y E A R 1 1The Year 10 and 11 students were also course counselled for 2020. A very successful parent/student/teacher day was held on 7 August. This was a new part of the course counselling process with its aim to ensure that parents were kept abreast of the options students have as they move towards their final years of secondary education. In order to better support these students, a VCE/ VCAL Orientation Program will take place in the final few weeks of Term 4. The Program signals the commencement of the 2020 VCE/VCAL year. Students will be placed in their respective classes and summer holiday homework will be set. The Orientation Program was implemented for the first time last year and proved to be very beneficial to students.

Y E A R 9The Year 9’s entering the senior school, also participated in information sessions in preparation for 2020. Both student and parent sessions were held to explain the curriculum programs offered in Year 10. One program which was introduced this year with great success was the VCE Accelerated Program. Students who have shown above average results and the capacity to deal with an advanced study program will have the opportunity to undertake one VCE subject next year.

ATCinoThe aroma of freshly brewed coffee is in the air. Our VCAL students officially launched their new adventure with ATCino now up and running.

Staff and students can now buy a fresh coffee each morning between 8.30-8.50am from the Secondary canteen and during recess. As this is a mobile service, parents and the general public can pick up their cappuccino, latte or hot chocolate from the Masjid during Jummah prayers.

We ask that you support our students in their new venture. So come by and purchase a delicious hot drink on Fridays. We do have loyalty cards, with one free coffee with every 10 purchased. So what are you waiting for, your caffeine kick is waiting for you at ATCino Café!

Not only is she learning basic football skills but also the importance of team play. Tiare has made new friends

and adores her teachers. I would highly recommend the Little Roos soccer program"

"We started Tiare in Little Roos so she

could be introduced to a sport at a very young age.
