Disruptive Classroom Behavior
Strategies for Turbulent Times
• Classroom Behavioral Expectations---- Student Code of Conduct
• Classroom Posting of Expectations• Classroom Incident Form
• Academic Honesty
26Strategies for Turbulent Times
1. When possible talk to student privately and ask student to stop the behavior.
2. If the student doesn’t stop the behavior, let the student know that if they continue, you will have to ask them to leave class.
3. If the student continues, let the student know that they will need to leave the class for two class sessions and then submit the removal from class form to the Dean’s Office on the same day.
4. This allows the Dean to contact the student to address the behavior promptly.
5. Unless a matter of an urgent and serious nature, students may generally return after 2 class sessions. (Please note your syllabus should address your policy for make up exams, homework, etc. when removed from class).
6. While students are entitled to their due process rights and confidentiality, the Dean of Student Affairs makes every effort to communicate with the faculty member that follow up has taken place.
