Did a series of stories on the hardships and harassment faced by tourists, especially foreigners, visiting the Taj Mahal. Taking cognizance of a TOI story “Ill-behaved hotel staff hurt our sentiments: UK couple”, Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav directed officials to ensure safety, security and dignity of tourists, besides taking a special care of facilities being provided to them in the state.

A series of stories on the menace of touts operating from Taj Mahal’s vicinity made the administration to take several remedial measure.

A story “Ticket scam continues at Taj Mahal” highlighting ticket scam at monuments of Agra made the Archaeological Survey of India to conduct surprise checks at historical sites. One staff who was found involved in ticket resale was immediately transferred. Moreover, ASI promptly extended the e-ticket facility to foreign tourists, who had been kept away from the service even after more than one year of its launch.

Did an exclusive story on a medieval step-well built by first Mughal emperor Babur at Fatehpur Sikri. Another story was based on the remnants from Mesolithic period (Stone Age) in forms of rock paintings and cave shelters existing in hills of Fatehpur Sikri. But they are on verge of extinction. At present, the remaining ones are located in four villages, Rasoolpur, Patsal, Madanpura and Bandroli, situated a few kilometers from the Fatehpur Sikri Fort.

Covered several high profile events like UP Bird Festival, UP NRI Diwas and Taj Literature Festival among others.

Did extensive coverage of Muzzafarnagar riots. Stayed and reported from Muzaffarnagar. The covergae included story of two girls, whose alleged eve-teasing acted as the immediate trigger of the riots and how they were contemplating of dropping out of school. I did many stories about the gory details of the riot – how injuries showed that the rioters used nearly every possible object to inflict injuries and also incidents of communal harmony when elders from both the community came forward to help their neighbours from the rioting mob.

While covering crime beat, I have done several stories including NRI Anmol Sarna’ murder case and BSP MP’s wife brutality case against her maids.

2. The Times of India, Gurgaon

Duration: July 2010 to August 2013

Work profile: City reporting. Reported on several beats including health, traffic, transport and civic issues.

Assignments:

Did several exclusive stories on various topics. This includes Delhi-Gurgaon expressway traffic issues, Gurgaon BMW hit-and-run case (2012) and death of a four-year-old girl who fell into a 68-feet abandoned bore well in Kasan (Manesar). Several of my stories were published on the paper’s front page and various editions.

Punjab and Haryana High Court cited my story to counter the claims of the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway’s developer, DGSCL, that everything is fine with the e-way traffic management.

TOI was the first newspaper to publish the letter of BMW hit-and run case victim. The victim had lost his pregnant wife in the May, 2012 incident. The story appeared on TOI’s front page and was subsequently picked up by other news papers and channels.

I stayed at spot for consecutive days and night at Kasan village, 30 Km from Gurgaon, where the rescue operation of four-year old girl was being conducted by the army. Did several stories covering all aspects. The news stories were published in various editions of TOI.

Did a story on how Gurgaon with five star hospitals has emerged as a dream destination for international patients in recent years.

slum area of Chandigarh, resulting in losses of crores of rupees to the UT electricity department. This led to the UT administration to conduct raids and order an inquiry.

Did human interest story on Ram Lal Sindhia, an eight-footer from Ballia (U.P.), who fought for livelihood by putting himself on display for visitors for Rs 10 per ticket at a mela in Chandigarh. This story appeared in Mumbai and Lucknow editions of The Times of India.
