The Panthers made their second trip to the NCAA Tournament in as many years, but are knocked out by Brooklyn, 4-1, in the first round. 1989 Adelphi finished a grueling season with a 12-3-3 record. The Panthers finished the season with a record five games ending in overtime with 2-0-3. Duane Robinson, Adelphi's leading scorer, fin- ished the season ranked third in NCAA Division I. Robinson, named a second-team All-American and first-team All-State, continues to hold the Adelphi career goals record (55). 1990 Adelphi (14-6-1) opened the season on a four game win streak, eventually tying the school record for most wins (14) in a season. Coach Montgomery is named NY State Coach of the Year. The Panthers advanced to the second- round of the Division I NCAA Tournament for the first time ever, defeating Brooklyn, 1-0. No. 17 nationally-ranked Adelphi lost to Rutgers, 3-2 in overtime. 1991 Adelphi battles through a record six overtime games in route to a No. 14 nationally ranking and a 10-4-5 overall record. The last two overtime contests came at the end of the season, with Adelphi tying Oneonta, 1-1 before advancing to the NCAA Tournament. The Panthers lost to Seton Hall, 2-1 in four overtimes in the first round. 1992 Adelphi (11-6-2) finished the season ranked 21st with its sixth consecutive winning season. Coach Montgomery led the Panthers to its sixth NCAA Tournament. 1993 Chris Armas led the Adelphi in scoring and was named honorable mention All-America. Armas, named All-State and team MVP, earned his third consecutive Academic All-America honor. The Panthers used an eight-game, mid-season unbeaten streak to finish with an 8-8-2 record, their seventh straight season of posting a .500 record or better. 1994 The Panthers played the season with a young team as the 23-man roster comprised of 16 play- ers who were either sophomores (10) or fresh- man (6). Despite their youth, the Panthers opened the season winning four of their first six games. Plagued by injuries, Adelphi limped to a 5-12-1 record, the first sub .500 season since 1986. 1995 Starting four freshman and four sophomores, the Panthers were 5-12. 1996 The Panthers used a late-season six-game win streak to leap over .500, but an overtime loss to eventual national champion St. John's sent the Panthers on a three-game tailspin as they ended the year at 8-9-1. 1997 Adelphi was 6-13. Mark Reinhold earned All- Region honors and was a Verizon Academic All- America honorable mention. 1998 Adelphi suffered a disappointing 3-14-1 season, their lowest win percentage in school history (.176). A 3-1 win over Fairleigh Dickinson ended a five-game drought to give the Panthers their first win of the season. Coach Montgomery is just two wins away from his 200th career victory. 1999 Coach Montgomery earns his 200th career win with a 2-0 victory over Fordham on September 9, 1999. Adelphi finished the season 8-9. 2000 Adelphi joins the Atlantic Soccer Conference (ASC) after 20 years as an independent institu- tion. The Panthers were 10-9-0 (.526), post their first winning season seven years. Marcin Pachowicz is named ASC Player of the year and led the conference in points per game and goals and was third in assists. 2001 After getting off to a slow start (0-5), the Adelphi Panthers rallied back to finish the 2001 season with a 8-8-1(.531) overall record and 3-3 in the Atlantic Soccer Conference (ASC). The 2001 season marked coach Montgomery’s 14th win- ning season. 2002 The Panthers finished the season with a mark of 5-12-1 overall. But played strong in the ASC, going 3-2 and finishing third. 2003 Adelphi started the season hot, going 4-1-1 in their first six games on their way to a 8-6-3 record, giving Montgomery his 15th winning sea- son. The Panthers fin- ished 2-2-1 in the ASC, placing third for the third straight year. Senior Gary Sullivan became just the second Adelphi player ever selected in the MLS SuperDraft when the Colorado Rapids made him the 45th overall pick in the 2004 draft. 2004 Adelphi fielded a young team (18 newcomers) in 2004, but posted a strong 2-1 victory at Syracuse early before faltering midway through the season. The Panthers recoverd to win three of their last five games and post a mark of 6-9-1 overall. 2005 For the second season in a row the Panthers opened up with a win, topping Manhattan, 1-0. But would wind up finishing 4-13-2 overall, but could have easily posted a winning record, hav- ing lost five games by one goal. 2006 The 2006 season was a year of milestones for Adelphi. Coach Montgomery earned his 250th career victory and led the Panthers to their first Atlantic Soccer Conference regular season and tournament titles. Adelphi also returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1992. 2007 The Panthers had a new face on the sideline in 2007 for the first time in almost three decades, as Carlo Acquista took over as Head Coach. Adelphi started slow, but closed well, posting a record of 4-3-1 in their final eight games. Montgomery was a part of the Panther pro- gram for over 30 years. Joe Afful helped the Panthers to an 8-6-3 finish in 2003. 1954 The Panthers completed their first recorded sea- son with a 2-4-1 overall record. 1962 Constantine Dodos' record 25 goals in a single- season remains as the longest standing record in Adelphi soccer history. 1963 In his first year as head coach, Laurence Holt led the Panthers to a 13-2-0 record and a Metropolitan Conference title. The Panthers also posted their best season start, winning their first four consecutive games. Constatine Dodos and Alejandro Ponce tie the single season goals record with 25 each. Dodos also set the Adelphi record for most points in a season (65), which still stands today. 1964 Holt returned to coach Adelphi to a 5-7-2 record. 1965 Bob Ritcey joined the Adelphi staff, coaching the Panthers to a 4-9-2 record. 1967 Jim Dolan was named to the All-Met Conference with a 2.35 goals against average, playing all 17 games in goal including two shutouts. 1968 Mel Less becomes the sixth head coach in Adelphi soccer history and would go on to coach the Panthers for the next 10 years compiling a 110-32-19 record. Jim Dolan once again earned All-Met honors. 1969 Dolan continues to lead Adelphi and is named All-State. He earns All-Met honors for the third straight season leading the Panthers to a 10-2-3 record. Adelphi finishes the season with a No. 3 regional ranking. 1971 Adelphi completes the season ranked fifth in the region with a 7-2-3 record. Carlos Scott, Adelphi's leading scorer, earns All-State and All-Met hon- ors. Peter Amari is also named All-Met. 1972 Adelphi converts to a Division II program, and advances to the first round of the NCAA Division II Tournament. The Panthers (12-3-2), earn their first ever national ranking, finish- ing the season at No. 15. Dick Heyn and goalie Eugene DuChateau both receive All-State and All-Met honors. Carlos Scott earns his second straight All-Met nod. 1973 Coach Less was named the Met Conference Coach of the Year after the Panthers posted a spotless 7-0 conference record and set a new school record for most wins in a season (16), which still stands today. Adelphi (16-2-1) finished third in the NCAA Division II Tournament. The #14 ranked Panthers fell to UM-St. Louis, 1-0, in the Semifinal and went on to defeat UMBC, 1-0, in the consolation round. Five players earn All- State and All-Met honors. Eugene DuChateau set the Adelphi record for most shutouts in a sea- son with 12, a record that still stands. 1974 The Panthers won its first-ever NCAA Championship under seventh-year head coach Mel Less. Adelphi recorded the best winning per- centage in school history as they were victorious in 16 of 18 games finished the season (.941). The #5 nationally ranked Adelphi team defeated Seattle Pacific in the championship game, 3-2. Nimrod Dreyfuss becomes the first Adelphi play- er to earn All-American honors after being named to the second team. Dreyfuss, team MVP, also earned first-team All-State and All-Met honors. 1975 Adelphi made its fourth straight appearance at the NCAA Division II Tournament, finishing third overall. Seattle Pacific avenged last year's loss, downing Adelphi 3-2, ending the Panthers' hope of a repeat performance. Nimrod Dreyfuss was named first-team All-American and Charlie O'Donnell was named to the third-team. Two-time team MVP, Dreyfuss earned first-team All-State and All-Met honors. For the third time in as many years, Adelphi went undefeated (7-0) in the Met Conference. Eugene DuChateu completed his career as Adelphi's most successful goalie. All-America Nimrod Dreyfuss completes his sweep of the team MVP honors, receiving the award four consecutive seasons. Leading scor- er Gerry Reardon was selected third-team All- American and first-team All-State. 1981 Adelphi, ranked ninth in the final NY State rank- ings, went 9-8-2. Gerry Reardon and goalkeeper Ray Hughes are each named first-team All-State. 1982 Four-time team MVP Gerry Reardon, was named second-team All-America and first-team All-State. Reardon is also named MVP of the Senior Bowl. The Panthers suffered their lowest win percent- age to date, finishing the season 6-12-2 (.333). 1983 Adelphi was 10-5-3, posting its best Division I season start since 1964, by winning its first four contests.
