ADELAIDE MOTORSPORT FESTIVAL

The 2018 Adelaide Motorsport Festival is in its 4th

year as the reinvented Classic Adelaide. The

event is designed to attract local, interstate and international competition cars and motorbikes.

Attendees will see a huge range of cars and many notable drivers, both of which will be

accessible in the public area. The festival includes many attractions including the Adelaide

Rally and Victoria Park Sprint.

THE RALLY

The Adelaide Rally is a 3-day event running from Thursday 29 November to Saturday 1

December focused on spirited driving challenges and touring sections comprising over 24

Driving activities. Throughout the three days, participants will be challenged with the

traditional Classic Adelaide Rally sprint stages combined with on track exercises as well as

closed road touring. The result is three full days jam packed with activities in a relaxed social

setting with entry criteria accessible to the everyday car-enthusiast.

Solitaire Aston Martin is creating a Main Tour Rally packet. Each tour packet will consist of ten

Aston Martin vehicles.

COMPETING IN THE MAIN TOUR RALLY

To compete in the Adelaide Motorsport Festival Main Tour Rally competitors are to provide

their own Aston Martin car.

REQUIREMENTS

Driver Level 2 Speed CAMS License – L2S

Navigator Level 2 Non-Speed CAMS License – L2NS

Cost $1,500 per car (Aston Martin customer special normally $1,695)

LICENSES – Driver & Navigator

You will need to obtain a Level 2 CAMS License (Confederation of Australia Motor Sport). This

license is a basic motorsport license that entitles the competitor to compete in events such as

observed section trials, touring assemblies and non-timed road events for the duration of the

event. To obtain your CAMS L2S and L2NS license, you will need to become a member of an

Australian Sporting Car Club and purchase an Annual License. Solitaire Aston Martin is pleased

to advise we can facilitate Sporting Car Club of SA membership and a Temporary License for

competitors to cover the Adelaide Rally dates only at a cost of $40 per person for new rally

participants (introductory offer provided by CAMS) or for those competed in 2017, the cost is

$135 per person.

NAVIGATOR

Responsible for directing the driver for the Main Tour Rally, noting that participating cars will

need the same Navigator for all three days of the Rally. All Navigators are provided with a

bound Road Book that includes all details for each stage of the tour including times, directions,

distances and signage.

REGISTRATION

To streamline and assist the registration process, Solitaire Aston Martin will facilitate licensing,

vehicle inspections and any other competitor requirements within our legal capacity. Please

complete the form on the last page of this guide, for both Driver and Navigator. Registrations

close Sunday 30 September 2018 and should be submitted to Ellysia Chick via email to

ellysia.chick@solitaire.com.au.

INSURANCE

Refer below for CAMS Licensing insurance coverage:

The situation is that the CAMS event insurance only provides cover for personal accident and

public liability during the event.

The Personal Accident insurance can provide financial assistance to insured individuals

(including CAMS license holders, crew, officials and volunteers) who sustain an injury during

a CAMS permitted activity.

The Public Liability insurance can provide protection for insured organisations and/or

individuals against legal and associated costs that may arise if accused of negligence during a

CAMS permitted activity.

Any damage to a vehicle entered in a CAMS permitted event is not covered by event insurance

and it is the responsibility of the vehicle owner to ensure that they have appropriate insurance

to cover any incident or damage and that the insurance is valid under the conditions of the

event.

“This means the CAMS Licensing insurance does not provide any coverage in relation to any

damage caused to your vehicle or caused by your vehicle during the course of the event. It

is your sole responsibility to ensure that the vehicle in which you participate is adequately

and properly insured. If you enter into the Adelaide Motorsport Festival Main Tour Rally,

you do so on the understanding, and you acknowledge, that Solitaire Aston Martin accepts

no responsibility whatsoever in respect of any damage caused to or by your vehicle while

you are participating in the rally and as to whether you have an adequate level of insurance

for the event.”

Solitaire Aston Martin strongly recommends that the owner of the Aston Martin vehicle

participating in the Main Tour is sufficiently insured to cover them in the unlikely case of an

incident. We recommend that you contact your insurance company or broker to ensure you

have adequate insurance for the rally. When you do make contact, you can provide them

with the following information: The rally is to be held from 29 November to 1 December

2018 and will involve driving the Aston Martin vehicle in a controlled environment, in the

order of 27 to 31 closed road sections at a speed limit of 80km/h. You can expect to drive

approximately 800 kilometres, mostly on normal sealed public roads, in what is classed as a

touring road event run under a CAMS permit. Five elements of the rally will be held on a

certified race track (The Bend) over a distance of approximately 20 kilometres in which the

speed limit will be 110 kilometres per hour.

Insurer assessment of these participant conditions will determine whether you need to change

your insurance premium.

WARRANTY

Please refer to your car’s Owner’s Guide on vehicle warranty. As stated in the manual;

Aston Martin is not responsible for any repair or replacement that is required as a direct result

of:

Defects caused as a result of the vehicle being used in a motor sport or track events or

for any other purpose other than normal private or commercial use.

Therefore, if a fault and/or defect occurs to the vehicle as a result of competing in the rally,

that fault may not be covered, however does not mean the warranty is entirely void.

ATTIRE

Neck to wrist to ankle attire is required with flat, comfortable shoes. Helmet and race suit are

not required. You will receive a complimentary Aston Martin long-sleeved, 100% cotton top

as part of your registration for both Driver and Navigator.

SAFETY

It is a requirement that all cars carry an Oil Spill Kit, Hazard Triangle, First Aid Kit and Fire

Extinguisher (minimum 1kg). Solitaire Aston Martin have negotiated a bulk-buy reduced total

cost of $150 which is to be covered by the driver.

All cars need to be fitted with a Fire Extinguisher. The Fire Extinguisher comes with a basic

bracket to hold the bottle, however will require an adapter to fit the Fire Extinguisher in the

car without drilling holes. Solitaire Aston Martin can assist with the installation if you are to

undertake the Pre-Rally Inspection at Solitaire Aston Martin Service, however there will be a

cost of $70 to the participant for the bracket to attach the Fire Extinguisher under the

passenger’s seat where it must be located. This doesn’t require any modification to the vehicle.

VEHICLE INSPECTION

It is expected that to compete in the event, your car is road worthy (including good tyres).

Solitaire Aston Martin Service Centre will offer discount vehicle inspections as follows:

Pre-Rally Inspection $200 vehicle health check including standard wheel alignment

Pre & Post-Rally Inspection $300

SCRUTINEERING

Scrutineering is a mandatory and critical check of all participating vehicles prior to the start of

the rally to ensure they conform to the CAMS rules and safety regulations. If a participating

vehicle violates the rules and regulations, it will not be able to participate in the Main Tour

Rally. Scrutineering will occur on Tuesday 27 November at Solitaire Aston Martin, Hawthorn.

Timing is as follows:

3:45pm – 5:00pm Aston Martin Main Tour Rally Vehicle Scrutineering. This can be attended

by driver only

5:00pm – 5:30pm Information & Briefing Session at Solitaire Aston Martin combined with

Audi Main Tour Rally. Both Driver & Navigator must attend.

Please note that all Event decals must be installed prior to scrutineering. Solitaire Aston Martin

will have a signwriter on site at the Information & Briefing session to install supplied Event

decals at a cost of $60 per car. If you have additional sponsor decals, these can be installed at

the same time, however you will need to ensure you bring these with you (made to the correct

dimensions).

Below are the details of the supplier printing the Event decals. You don’t need to contact them

regarding the compulsory Event decals, these are supplied as part of your registration and will

be given to you at the Information & Briefing Session if you wish for our professional Signwriter

to install, alternatively we can supply these to you to install yourself once received from Rally

organisers. If you choose to have sponsors and they require decals to be printed to display as

additional signage on your car, they can print for you at a cost. Please see details below:

DURING THE RALLY

Solitaire Aston Martin will have be providing coffee and water each morning of the rally for

participants.

During the day, participants are supplied lunch along with coffee and refreshments at other

planned stops.

AFTER THE RALLY

Participant cars can be stored at Victoria Park where there will be site security monitoring each

night. Alternatively, participants can take their car home. It would be preferable that cars are

on display at Victoria Park on Sunday however cars cannot be removed before 5:00pm.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Does the $1,500 registration cost include licensing?

No, the registration cost covers that only (along with the other benefits Solitaire Aston Martin

are providing). If Driver and/or Navigator require licensing this will be an additional $40

each (new participants) and $135 (2017 participants).

Can I get my Fire Extinguisher secured at the same time I have the decals applied at the

Scrutineering and Information Session on Tuesday 27 November?

No. This must be fitted to your Aston Martin prior to Scrutineering. If you need assistance the

Solitaire Aston Martin Service Centre can assist. You will need to cover the cost of the

bracket which is $70.

Do we have to have the car insured?

It is the owner’s own liability and risk as to whether they insure their own car.

Can we overtake in the Rally?

No.

What if I get lost?

Road Book is supplied with full instructions on directions, distances and times. Hopefully

with the addition of the 2-way radios this year, this won’t occur.

What happens regarding what position you leave within the tour packet? If there is someone

slower placed in front, will they be moved?

This decision will be made at the discretion of the lead car (Drive Instructor). If you do have

concerns with being held up, it is best you speak with the lead car.

If my car has a mechanical issue prior to the rally and cannot be fixed in time, do I receive a

refund?

A 50% refund will be issued up until 19 November. After this day a refund cannot be

distributed.

Does my Navigator have to be over 18 years of age?

Yes. It is a requirement they hold a full driver’s license together with the L2NS CAMS license.

Will there be Service Technicians on the road?

Aston Martin Technicians can be called, if a visit is required the technician can come on site

to assist. Tow trucks are also floating if required. Any roadside or mechanical assistance

required for your car is to be paid by the owner.

Do I need a Navigator? Or can I do this on my own?

Yes. It is compulsory you use the same navigator for all three days of the rally.

Does the Navigator need to attend Scrutineering?

No, however they must attend the Information and Briefing session held at Solitaire Aston

Martin at 5:00pm on Tuesday 27 November.

Can the Navigator share the drive at all over the 3 days?

No.

Regarding the Gouger Street Party on Friday night, will I have time to clean my car after the

Rally?

All cars leave and return from Victoria Park. Cars will return by 3.30pm to 4.00pm on Friday

30 November. There is a window to clean the cars before arriving at Gouger Street by

5.00pm. All cars are to be at Gouger Street before 5.00pm.

What does the Victoria Sprint Finale involve?

Cars will return to Victoria Park before completing the final stage. Because this is a licensed

track, cars will complete almost 2 laps at a maximum speed of 110kph. This will be the same

at The Bend for activities completed.

Will you supply petrol for the rally?

Petrol is to be supplied by the owner. Your Road Book will have petrol stops marked.

Can I have sponsors? If so, can we have branding on the car?

Participants can have sponsors with branding on their car as long as it does not breach the

Rally signage/stickers that will be placed to the side door panels and bonnet front. Please see

point below.

What and where are the Rally signage/stickers placed and will it cause any damage to my

paint?

Please see image below for positioning of stickers. The sticker is a low-tack material meaning

it will last for the three days, but will not cause any damage to your paint. If you are having

your car wrapped, they can also install the stickers providing they have been supplied to you

in time.

502.1 Compulsory Decals

Prior to pre-Event scrutiny the Organisers will supply Event decals, and compulsory Event sponsor

decals. These must be attached to the vehicle as issued (eg: not reduced in size by trimming) prior to

the vehicle being scrutinised, and then maintained in good order and condition throughout the Event.

The decals to be affixed as intended (ie: not taped) & placed as follows:

Area 1: 10 cm H x 120 cm W Windscreen strip – Major Sponsor

Area 2: 15 cm H x 50 cm W – Adelaide Rally and Car Number

Area 3: 10 cm H x 10 cm W - Competition Number on co-driver’s side on front windscreen

Area 4: 50 cm H x 40 cm W - Door Plate - Competition number and Sponsor Logo

Area 5: 10 cm H x 10 cm W - Competition Number on driver’s side on back window

Please disregard area 6, 7 and 8.

Please note our professional Signwriter can install all stickers for you at a cost of $60.

What wear and tear can I expect to my car?

We don’t expect any abnormal wear and tear outside normal driving at 90km/h, however

there is a small risk of stone chips from running over gravel that may get thrown onto some

corners of some stages of the rally. If this is a concern, you could look to invest in a paint

wrap for your vehicle. Tim Alison from Winguard can install this. Please phone (08) 8371

Can I use a Go Pro internally and/or externally on my car?

Participants can use a Go Pro however it must be properly secured to the car i.e. not taped.

Please note if you are to place this inside the car, that it does not breach any airbags or safety

features of the car.

Is the Adelaide Motorsport Festival at Victoria Park free to enter?

The cost is $30 per adult per day or $50 for a weekend pass. Driver and Navigator receive a

pass that grants access all weekend.
