  • 10. UAA Nursing School Expansion
    • 2002 University/Industry Task Force primary recommendation was to double the capacity of School of Nursing by 2006
    • UAA SON was graduating less than 100 per year; Weber State about 10-20 more in Alaska
    • Projected need for about 220-240 new graduate positions available annually in the state (survey in Summer 2003)
    • Doubling capacity has since become a goal for nursing schools nationally

    • GRADUATE PROGRAM
      • Grow our own faculty
        • Develop Masters in Nursing Education track and certificate
        • Improve distance delivery of MSN/Nurse Practitioner programs
        • Collaborate with OHSU to offer their doctoral program in nursing
    • BACCALAUREATE PROGRAM
      • Expansion of the bachelors program was planned in three ways:
        • Increase the size of each admission cohort from 32 to 40 in Anchorage
        • Increase the number of admission cohorts from two to three per year
        • Enhance the RN->BSN track for distance delivery
    • ASSOCIATE DEGREE PROGRAM
      • Expansion of the associate degree program outreach and articulation:
        • Expand the number of communities where the program is delivered
        • Implement LPN articulation and AVTEC LPN agreement
        • Add an additional cohort in Anchorage in the future
    • PRACTICAL NURSE PROGRAM
      • Expansion to new sites (e.g. Bethel, Fairbanks, Ketchikan, Valley):
        • Continue one-year vocational program
        • Use distance delivery format for didactic; on-site clinical instruction
        • Deliver in sites that request it in the future
        • Improved articulation with UAA AAS program
