Addressing Delay 3: Quality of Care/ Mentoring in Zambia

Mentorship Approach
• Reinforce appropriate application of knowledge and skills learned in EmONC/HBB in-service trainings through intensive, on-site mentorship
• Build capacity of district MOH and partner staff to provide quality mentorship, with support from MCHIP technical team
• Utilize existing MOH tools and structures with goal of integrating with quarterly district supervisory visits post-SMGL
Mentorship Components
• 3-5 day mentorship training for 17 Mansa-based mentors (PMO, DCMO, facilities and Partners)
– Mentoring skills – Use of EmONC Skills Checklists – Use of anatomic models to guide clinical simulations – Data collection and support – Reporting
• Visit to facilities on monthly basis by three teams of mentors (two to three mentors in each group)
• Quarterly mentorship meetings • Quarterly recognition/clinical update meetings
