(i) 2 must have experience in local government selected by the Minister from a panel of 5 nominated by the LGA;

The LGA Secretariat has had past and current challenges in obtaining the 5 nominations with local government experience for the South Australian Public Health Council. This issue was first raised at the 15 August 2013 LGA Management Group Meeting, and following further discussions at the LGA Management Group Meeting on the 27 February 2014, the Group recommended that the LGA:

Write to the Minister querying the need for a five member nomination panel to appoint

two (Member and Deputy)

In June 2014, the Secretariat wrote to the Hon Jack Snelling, MP, Minister for Health, The LGA Secretariat identified that the requirement for a five member nomination to the Council, when the appointment is only two, being a Member and Deputy, appears to be an inefficient use of resources and goodwill of candidates who nominate. This opinion was formed after receiving feedback from former Local Government representatives, and from the low level of nominations for the positions.

In response, the Minister advised that these concerns and possible solutions will be considered upon review of the Act which will be undertaken in February 2017, five years from commencement, pursuant to Section 110(1) of the Act.

Therefore, please find 4 nominations, 2 male and 2 female to consider for nomination to the appointment of the SAPHC.
