QUESTIONS AND CLARIFICATIONS:

Requests for clarification of details on the drawings or of provisions of the specifications have been identified. The questions with the appropriate Metropolitan responses are as follows:

(1) Question: Reference is made to Sheets C-4 (Construction Notes 16 and 18), 6S-1, and 6S-2 detail C. In Sheet C-4, Note 16 calls out for 6” thick concrete paving, but in Sheet 6S-2/C, plans call out for 12” thick concrete slab with deep section around retaining walls. Likewise, Note 18 in C-4 calls out for a 6” gravel surface, but 6S-1 calls out for 12”-thick concrete slab. Please clarify.

Answer: The structural drawings (Sheet 6S-1 and 6S-2) show the details for the structural slabs at the Potable Water Pumps and the Fire Water Pumps, as well as the outlines for the UPC, MCC foundations and retaining walls. The civil drawings show the grading and paving up to and around these areas.

(2) Question: Reference is made to Sheets 6S-1 and 6S-2 Retaining Wall Schedule. Based on the top of wall elevations and slab finish grade elevations, there are portions of the retaining wall that we cannot meet the H (max.) of the wall and the 1’-6” minimum of the concrete slab shown in Detail C in 6S-2. Should the bidder use the “Wall Type” dimensions shown, or the correct wall type based on the actual height of the wall?

Answer: Wall height can be met by using the actual height of wall to select wall dimensions from the schedule.

(3) Question: Can the ‘single source’ ready mix requirement, as specified in Section 03300, subparagraph 1.02A.1 be waived?

Answer: No. The “single source” requirement for ready-mixed concrete is enforced for the prime contractor; however, the subcontractors may choose different ready-mix vendors, and each will be allowed to receive deliveries from one source. As such, the Contractor and its subcontractors shall each receive ready-mix concrete from only one ready-mix vendor.

(4) Question: Can DI pipe and fittings be an acceptable alternate to fabricated steel piping on this project, above ground, below ground or both?

Answer: No. Ductile iron pipe and fittings shall not be used in lieu of fabricated steel.

(5) Question: A. Is power available from the pole across the street from the batch plant?

B. Could temporary power poles be installed up to the upper work and storage area?

Answer: A. No. SCE will not provide another meter at that or any other location on site. Any power required by the Contractor from that location must be coordinated and negotiated with DORP contractor.

B. No. Temporary power poles along the primary access road will not be allowed. There is some power available at the old scale house just west of Site H. There is a 240/120 volt panel being fed by a 5kVA transformer (at 240 volts it can be loaded up to a 20 Amp circuit max). The Contractor would be required to install a meter for reimbursing Metropolitan for the power

Addendum Number 1

used. Temporary power lines from the scale house must be underground (no overhead power lines across the road or chlorine blacktop area). Underground power line shall be installed below fire and potable water lines scheduled to be installed by DORP contractor.

(6) Question: Numerous sections of the specifications specify NSF 61 certification required for materials and/or equipment in contact with potable water. If we can’t find NSF 61 certified materials and/or equipment that meet the technical specifications, what should we provide for such materials and/or equipment?

Answer: If the materials and/or equipment are NSF 61 certified but do not meet all the technical specifications, they will not be approved for use on the project. In instances where no materials and/or equipment requiring NSF 61 certification is available, the Contractor shall provide documentation in their submittal supporting that fact, and shall propose only materials and/or equipment that meet the technical specifications for review and approval by the Engineer.

(7) Question: What is the correct material for the Horizontal Pipe on Sheet 6M-7, Section C, called out as E3? If you look at the plan view on Sheet 6M-4 the same pipe is connecting to A3 Material. Please confirm which is correct.

Answer: Stainless steel pipe is used on both sides of the flow meter 6FE-160, and the extent of stainless steel pipe used is shown by the dimension line with the letter “E” on the center on Sheet 6M-7, Section C. See Plan 1 on Sheet 6M-3 (Grid D-7) and Section C on Sheet 6M-7 (Grid B-2).

(8) Question: Sheet 6M-5, Plan 3 drawing indicates ball valve symbol with a callout for V-109, Gate Valve per Section 15100, page 28. Please confirm which is correct.

Answer: Valve V-109 is a gate valve. Valve symbol was incorrectly shown. Refer to Changes to Drawings in this addendum.

(9) Question: Sheet 6M-5, Plan 3 indicating 2” D-D Pipe. The drawing is calling out for Detail M-8, Det. 2 Clean Out. This detail is calling for 4” plug. Please confirm which is correct.

Answer: The 2” D-D pipe and 4” plug are correct as shown and are connected to the 8” D-D drain pipe. The Contractor shall provide reducers as required to connect the 4” cleanout and the 2” pipe to the 8” drain line.

(10) Question: Sheet 6M-3, Plan 1 has 8” DD-Drain Line with Note to see Sheet C-6 for continuation see Sheet C-6 which shows pipe called out as D-Pipe. One is PVC Pipe and the other is CPVC. Which is correct? There is also 8” pipe running north and south on Sheet 6M-3, Plan 1. Where is it going?

Answer: Both drawings call for “D” pipe, which is PVC pipe and fittings. On Sheet 6M-3, the callout in Grid D-5 reads 8”-D-D, that is PVC drain line, not 8”-DD. CPVC pipe is not specified on this project. For line designation standard, see Sheet I-2, Grid J-4. The continuation of the 8” pipe running north and south is shown on Sheet C-6.

(11) Question: Section 02922, Paragraph 3.09B, references Section 02970. Section 02970 was not included in the bid documents. If this information applies to this contract, please provide such

Answer: Section 02970 is not required, and the references to Section 02970 were deleted in this addendum under Changes to Specifications.
