With double glazing your home is healthier and more comfortable

Your home could be warmer in winter and cooler in summer, which reduces your power bills and helps the environment too.

Condensation will be dramatically reduced. Condensation is a serious problem, causing mould and mildew to grow. Condensation can also rot timber window frames and even damage your family’s health.

Reduced outside noise for a quieter home. Outside noise can be reduced by up to 60%. This makes high performance double glazing an excellent investment if traffic or aeroplane noise is a problem.

Plus your home could be worth more! A home that is efficiently insulated will be more attractive to a potential buyer than one that’s cold and uncomfortable. Good quality double glazing is a sensible investment in your home.

Did you know that double glazing reduces interior fading? This reduces the need to draw drapes during the day. And because it’s more difficult to break, particularly if you use laminated or toughened glass, it discourages intruders for improved safety and security.

What additional benefits can argon gas and low Emissivity (low E) glass provide?

Since the heat flow resistance of still air is much greater than that of glass, a glass unit made of two panes enclosing an air space will have about twice the insulation value of a single pane window (half the heat loss).

By including Argon gas between the panes of glass and sealing it in, the insulating performance of your double glazing increases. Argon gas is denser than air and acts as a greater barrier to heat loss and heat absorption in the home. Argon gas is a naturally occurring inert gas, and it’s not harmful to you.

Low E glass is more efficient at keeping the heat inside the home during winter and preventing heat absorption during the hot summer months because it reflects long wave radiation.

Argon gas and Low E glass, when used together in an Insulating Glass Unit (IGU), will deliver a superior insulation performance.

There are various ways to measure how effective a product is at sound control. The chart below uses Perceived Sound Reduction (PSR). With this system a 10 decibel reduction is generally considered as having reduced the original noise level by 50%.

Even modern, well-insulated homes can lose up to half of the interior heat through single glazed windows.

Retro-fit double glazing can reduce heat loss by up to 73%!

is retro-fit double glazing suitable for your home?

If the windows that you currently have are single glazed, then undoubtedly yes! Retro-fit double glazing simply replaces your existing single glazing with insulating glass units (IGUs). It’s a relatively straightforward process that will not affect the normal action of your windows and doors.

Our double glazing solutions are purpose built for each home and will be colour-matched as close as possible to suit your existing window frames. The components are manufactured to meet the highest construction standards, this is not a low quality, clip on solution.

Glass balustrades

Glass balustrades are increasingly popular in homes, public areas and commercial buildings.

A glass balustrade is a modern and stylish safety barrier, providing strength and safety yet allowing maximum unobstructed views.

Christchurch Glass customises the production of frameless glass balustrades to suit your design and specification. Our balustrades use Grade A toughened safety glass.

Modern designs reflect a range of different looks, so the specific glass type you choose for your project can vary.

Structural balustrades require the glass to take handrail loads. They must use toughened safety glass and the loading on the glass is determined by NZS4203 or AS/NZS1170.

Contact Christchurch Glass when you are designing your balustrade. We will provide advice on fixing types and methods for anchors, and on the relevant building codes.

mirrors

Christchurch Glass mirrors are made from glass of the highest quality, which is treated with a silver backing and then paint-coated for durability and resistance to chemicals. This protects against moisture, corrosion and temperature changes.

Christchurch Glass offers a variety of mirror designs from polished edges to decorative bevels on straight-edged or shaped pieces of glass. The mirrors can even be V Cut or sandblasted for special effects – you are limited only by your imagination!

Safety vinyl backing is optional on all mirrors and is recommended for high-risk human impact areas. If the mirror is broken the adhesive vinyl will ensure fragments stay together and reduce the risk of injury.

Mist-free mirrors are a fantastic addition to any bathroom. A variety of low-wattage pads are available for fitting to the back of the mirror. These are permanently wired and switched on – no thermostats or transformers are required for normal home use.

Standard mirrors are available in thicknesses from 3mm to 6mm. Vinyl-backed mirrors are normally available in 4mm thickness.

With a large array of glass and decorative finishing techniques available from Christchurch Glass, your biggest problem when creating a bathroom will be overwhelming choice.

All Christchurch Glass frameless shower enclosures are made of Grade A toughened safety glass, which can be enhanced with a wide variety of decorative finishing techniques.

Quality heavyweight frameless showers are custom-made to meet individual design requirements.

Consult with Christchurch Glass in the early stages of bathroom construction as it is important that tradesmen understand the design requirements of a frameless glass shower enclosure.

Christchurch Glass shower hardware is crafted from solid metal for beauty and long life in a range of styles and surface finishes. Choose from polished chrome, satin chrome, gold and powdercoat finishes.

Fading is a concern for any homemaker or interior designer. Furniture, drapes, carpets, even artworks and photographs come under attack from sunlight, heat and UV radiation. However, fading can be significantly reduced by using the appropriate glass.

UV radiation fades materials through direct contact, while sunlight and infrared act to heat the material, which accelerates the fading process. Using the correct glass in a home can be likened to using a good sunscreen on a summer holiday. The use of tinted and reflective solar control glass reduces the amount of UV, visible light and heat passing through the glass, thus reducing the rate of fading.

Laminated glass is also very effective and can absorb up to 99% of the damaging UV radiation. These products can be tinted to control light intensity and heat transmission.

For maximum protection, combine tinted or reflective glass within a laminated glass double glazing unit.

love the look of light but hate the look of fading?
