"A. Furnish and install, where shown on the plans, a self cleaning cartridge style dust collector for automatic continuous operation with blower sized for design air flow of 5000 CFM @ 10” W.G. Ext. SP.
"B. Dust laden air shall be filtered by filter cartridges constructed of non-woven spun polyester corrugated into a cylinder and bonded to steel end caps. The top end cap shall be fitted with a continuous neoprene gasket. There shall be bands on the clean air side of each cartridge to prevent the filter media from flexing during back flushing. Each filter cartridge shall be 13" diameter and 26" long and rated 99% at 0.5 micron and virtually 100% at 10 micron and above. Filter area shall not be less than 1320 square feet.
"C. The filter cartridges shall be installed by sliding on tracks which are accessible from the access doors. There shall be no more than two (2) cartridges per row. Each row shall be locked in place by means of a positive seal locking mechanism located adjacent to the door. Physical entry through the access doors shall not be required.
"D. Filter pressure drop monitored by a programmable pulse controller. "E. Filter cartridges shall be continuously and automatically cleaned by compressed air reverse flow.
Each row of filter cartridges shall have its own solenoid valve which is activated by a solid state timer with adjustable pulse interval and duration in NEMA 4 enclosure, shipped loose. Unit requires clean and dry compressed air of 10 SCFM at 100 PSI.
"F. Unit of airtight all steel construction with sealed seams and not less than 12 ga. hot rolled steel rated - 20" H2O for negative pressure.
"G. Hopper to be pyramid type and have a minimum of 55 degree slope. A 55 gallon drum, gasketed drum cover, flexible hoses and clamps for use under suction shall be furnished by dust collector manufacturer.
"H. The integral direct drive blower shall be located on the clean air side of the filters, top mounted at the factory and be of backward inclined design with a dynamically balanced impeller. It shall be driven by a 15 HP, 208 volt, 3450 RPM, TEFC motor.
"I. Indoor magnetic motor starter with VFD to have a high and low airflow switch. "J. Interior and exterior carbon steel surfaces shall be coated with epoxy primer and exterior finished with gray urethane enamel. "K. Unit shall be Sternvent Sternpulse Model SPV 1215-2 or approved equal. L. Options and Accessories:
1. Silencer: Discharge silencer for sound attenuation of fan discharge noise. Silencer shall be mounted directly to the fan discharge. a. Silencer shall be factory-braced off of the collector.
2. Recirculation HEPA Filters (2-Each): HEPA Angled Filter Section shall be front load style and housing shall be fabricated from 14 ga. steel minimum. Housing shall be welded and inspected so as not to allow bypass. Housing shall include welded transition to allow connection to return duct or to exhaust of dust collector blower. Provide two filter housings. Each housing should hold 2 filters, which shall be Nominal 24”x24”x12” HEPA 99.97% efficient to 0.3 micron. HEPA’s shall be Hi-Capacity filters rated for 2,000 CFM, for a total of 8,000 CFM.
3. Thermal Heater Kit: Provide heater kit for outdoor installation on solenoid enclosure. 4. Telescopic Fume Extractor Arms: Provide Nederman telescopic arms or approved equal. The 3’- 5” Telescopic Fume Extractor Arm shall have a 360° swivel elbow, a support flange,
internal support, sliding pads, preset joints with wear discs that can be adjusted if required, PVC reinforced nylon hose (6 ¼ in.), aluminum hood (12 in. diameter), balancer, optional quiet damper with positive seal, optional light package available for hood, and counter flange for 6 in. ventilation duct. The Telescopic action shall be adjusted externally with the balancer.”

SECTION 23 51 01 - GENERAL-SERVICE COMPRESSED-AIR PIPING
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 WORK INCLUDES:
A. Mechanical Contractor Provide:
1. Compressed Air piping.
2. Compressed Air specialties.
1.2 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
A. Seismic Performance: Per SEI/ASCE 7, "Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other
Structures."
1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Quality Standard for High-Pressure Compressed-Air Piping: ASME B31.1.
B. Quality Standard for Low-Pressure Compressed-Air Piping: ASME B31.9.
C. Quality Standard for Brazing: ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code: Section IX or
AWS B2.2.
D. Quality Standard for Welding: ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code: Section IX.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 DIELETRIC FITTINGS:
A. Dielectric Unions: 125-psig minimum working pressure at 180 deg F.
B. Dielectric Flanges: 125- or 300-psig minimum working pressure.
C. Dielectric-flange kits.
2.2 FLEXIBLE PIPE CONNECTORES: Bronze.
2.3 SPECIALTIES:
A. Compressed air filters:
1. 1” heavy duty filter rated for 200 psi for the fume collector and additional equipment line.
2. Filters shall have a stainless steel sleeve, micro-glass media with epoxy coating,
elastomeric filter to housing seal and sealed end caps.
3. Filters shall be capable of removing the following:
a. All solids 3 microns and larger.
b. Liquids up to 25,000 ppm by weight.
c. 99% of water droplets.
d. 40% of oil aerosols.
4. Provide a differential pressure alarm for each filter. Range shall be adjustable from 10 to
35 psi differential at 100 psig.
5. Acceptable Manufacturers: Hankison, Lincoln 600108 or approved equal.

B. Compress air condensate traps:
1. Traps shall be mechanically actuated with stainless steel construction, and 10-300 psig
working pressure.
2. Acceptable Manufacturer: Hankison Series 505 or approved equal.
C. Compressed air regulator:
1. 1/4” heavy duty regulator with air gauge.
2. Acceptable Manufacturer: Lincoln 600004 and 66100 or approved equal.
D. Compressed air dessicant dryer.
1. Provide air dryer sized per manufacturers recommendations.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 PIPING APPLICATIONS
A. Piping between Air Compressors and Receivers:
1. NPS 2 and Smaller: Steel pipe with threaded joints.
2. NPS 2-1/2 to NPS 4: Steel pipe with threaded joints.
B. Low-Pressure Distribution Piping:
1. NPS 2 and Smaller: Copper pipe and fittings. Brazed or soldered.
2. NPS 2-1/2 to NPS 4: Copper pipe and fittings. Brazed or soldered.
C. Drain Piping: Copper tube with brazed or soldered joints.
3.2 PIPING INSTALLATION
A. Drawing plans, schematics, and diagrams indicate general location and arrangement of
compressed-air piping. Indicated locations and arrangements were used to size pipe and calculate
friction loss, expansion, air-compressor sizing, and other design considerations. Install piping as
indicated unless deviations to layout are approved on Coordination Drawings.
B. Install piping concealed from view and protected from physical contact by building occupants,
unless otherwise indicated and except in equipment rooms and service areas.
C. Install piping indicated to be exposed and piping in equipment rooms and service areas at right
angles or parallel to building walls. Diagonal runs are prohibited, unless otherwise indicated.
D. Install piping above accessible ceilings to allow sufficient space for ceiling panel removal and to
coordinate with other services occupying that space.
E. Install piping adjacent to equipment and machines to allow service and maintenance.
F. Install air and drain piping with 1 percent slope downward in direction of flow.
G. Install nipples, flanges, unions, transition and special fittings, and valves with pressure ratings
same as or higher than system pressure rating, unless otherwise indicated.
H. Equipment and Specialty Flanged Connections:
1. Use steel companion flange with gasket for connection to steel pipe.
2. Use cast-copper-alloy companion flange with gasket and brazed or soldered joint for
connection to copper tube. Do not use soldered joints for connection to air compressors or

to equipment or machines producing shock or vibration.
I. Flanged joints may be used instead of specified joint for any piping or tubing system.
J. Install eccentric reducers where compressed-air piping is reduced in direction of flow, with
bottoms of both pipes and reducer fitting flush.
K. Install branch connections to compressed-air mains from top of main. Provide drain leg and drain
trap at end of each main and branch and at low points.
L. Install thermometer and pressure gage on discharge piping from each air compressor and on each
receiver.
M. Install piping to permit valve servicing.
N. Install piping free of sags and bends.
O. Install fittings for changes in direction and branch connections.
P. Install seismic restraints on piping. Seismic-restraint devices are specified in Division 23 Section
"Vibration and Seismic Controls for HVAC Piping and Equipment."
Q. Install sleeves for piping penetrations of walls, ceilings, and floors.
R. Install sleeve seals for piping penetrations of concrete walls and slabs.
S. Install escutcheons for piping penetrations of walls, ceilings, and floors.
3.3 JOINT CONSTRUCTION
A. Ream ends of pipes and tubes and remove burrs. Bevel plain ends of steel pipe.
B. Remove scale, slag, dirt, and debris from inside and outside of pipe and fittings before assembly.
C. Threaded Joints: Thread pipe with tapered pipe threads according to ASME B1.20.1. Cut threads
full and clean using sharp dies. Ream threaded pipe ends to remove burrs and restore full ID.
Join pipe fittings and valves as follows:
1. Apply appropriate tape or thread compound to external pipe threads unless dry seal
threading is specified.
2. Damaged Threads: Do not use pipe or pipe fittings with threads that are corroded or
damaged. Do not use pipe sections that have cracked or open welds.
D. Welded Joints for Steel Piping: Join according to AWS D10.12/D10.12M.
E. Brazed Joints for Copper Tubing: Join according to AWS's "Brazing Handbook," "Pipe and
Tube" Chapter.
F. Soldered Joints: Apply ASTM B 813, water-flushable flux, unless otherwise indicated, to tube
end. Join according to ASTM B 828 or CDA's "Copper Tube Handbook."
G. Flanged Joints: Use asbestos-free, nonmetallic gasket suitable for compressed air. Join flanges
with gasket and bolts according to ASME B31.9 for bolting procedure.
H. Dissimilar Metal Piping Material Joints: Use dielectric fittings.
3.4 VALVE INSTALLATION

A. Install shutoff valves and unions or flanged joints at compressed-air piping to air compressors.
B. Install shutoff valve at inlet to each automatic drain valve, filter, lubricator, and pressure
regulator.
C. Install check valves to maintain correct direction of compressed-air flow to and from compressed-
air piping specialties and equipment.
3.5 DIELECTRIC FITTING INSTALLATION
A. Install dielectric fittings in piping at connections of dissimilar metal piping and tubing.
3.6 FLEXIBLE PIPE CONNECTOR INSTALLATION
A. Install flexible pipe connectors in discharge piping of each air compressor.
B. Install bronze-hose flexible pipe connectors in copper compressed-air tubing.
C. Install stainless-steel-hose flexible pipe connectors in steel compressed-air piping.
3.7 SPECIALTY INSTALLATION
A. Install safety valves on receivers in quantity and size to relieve at least the capacity of connected
air compressors.
B. Install air-main pressure regulators in compressed-air piping at or near air compressors.
C. Install air-line pressure regulators in branch piping to equipment and tools.
D. Install automatic drain valves on aftercoolers, receivers, and dryers. Discharge condensate onto
nearest floor drain.
E. Install quick couplings at piping terminals for hose connections.
F. Install hose assemblies at hose connections.
3.8 CONNECTIONS
A. Install unions, in piping NPS 2 and smaller, adjacent to each valve and at final connection to
each piece of equipment and machine.
B. Install flanges, in piping NPS 2-1/2 and larger, adjacent to flanged valves and at final connection
to each piece of equipment and machine.
3.9 HANGER AND SUPPORT INSTALLATION
A. Comply with requirements in Division 23 Section "Vibration and Seismic Controls for HVAC
Piping and Equipment " for seismic-restraint devices.
B. Comply with requirements in Division 23 Section "Hangers and Supports for HVAC Piping and
Equipment" for pipe hanger and support devices.
C. Vertical Piping: MSS Type 8 or 42, clamps.
D. Individual, Straight, Horizontal Piping Runs:
1. 100 Feet or Less: MSS Type 1, adjustable, steel clevis hangers.

2. Longer Than 100 Feet: MSS Type 43, adjustable roller hangers.
E. Multiple, Straight, Horizontal Piping Runs 100 Feet or Longer: MSS Type 44, pipe rolls.
Support pipe rolls on trapeze.
F. Base of Vertical Piping: MSS Type 52, spring hangers.
G. Support horizontal piping within 12 inches of each fitting and coupling.
H. Rod diameter may be reduced 1 size for double-rod hangers, with 3/8-inch minimum rods.
I. Install hangers for Schedule 40, steel piping with the following maximum horizontal spacing and
minimum rod diameters:
1. NPS 1/4 to NPS 1/2 : 96 inches with 3/8-inch rod.
2. NPS 3/4 to NPS 1-1/4: 84 inches with 3/8-inch rod.
3. NPS 1-1/2: 12 feet with 3/8-inch rod.
4. NPS 2 : 13 feet with 3/8-inch rod.
5. NPS 2-1/2 : 14 feet with 1/2-inch rod.
6. NPS 3: 15 feet with 1/2-inch rod.
7. NPS 3-1/2: 16 feet with 1/2-inch rod.
J. Install supports for vertical, Schedule 40, steel piping every 15 feet.
K. Install hangers for Schedule 5, steel piping with the following maximum horizontal spacing and
minimum rod diameters:
1. NPS 1/2: 72 inches with 3/8-inch rod.
2. NPS 3/4: 84 inches with 3/8-inch rod.
3. NPS 1: 96 inches with 3/8-inch rod.
4. NPS 1-1/4: 108 inches with 3/8-inch rod.
5. NPS 1-1/2: 10 feet with 3/8-inch rod.
6. NPS 2: 11 feet with 3/8-inch rod.
L. Install supports for vertical, Schedule 5, steel piping every 10 feet.
M. Install hangers for copper tubing with the following maximum horizontal spacing and minimum
rod diameters:
1. NPS 1/4: 60 inches with 3/8-inch rod.
2. NPS 3/8 and NPS 1/2: 72 inches with 3/8-inch rod.
3. NPS 3/4: 84 inches with 3/8-inch rod.
4. NPS 1: 96 inches with 3/8-inch rod.
5. NPS 1-1/4: 108 inches with 3/8-inch rod.
6. NPS 1-1/2: 10 feet with 3/8-inch rod.

5.3 METAL DECK A. GENERAL 1. Deck shall be continuous over 3 spans, unless noted otherwise. 2. At supports parallel to the deck span, raise steel supports or provide shims at fastening points if the deck valley does not engage the support. 3. At Contractor's option, Hilti X-EDN and ENP fastening systems or approved equal may be used in lieu of welds to supports. B. ROOF DECK 1. Roof deck shall be designed, fabricated, and installed in accordance with "SDI Specifications and Commentary for Steel Roof Deck" in SDI Publication No. 29, 1995. 2. Roof deck shall be painted. 3. Acoustical roof deck shall be galvanized. 4. 1-1/2" wide rib roof deck with design thickness 0.0295" (22 gauge) shall have the following minimum properties: I=0.169 in^4/ft, Sp=0.186 in^3/ft, Sn=0.192 in^3/ft, and Fy=33 ksi. 5. 1-1/2" wide rib roof deck with design thickness 0.0358" (20 gauge) shall have the following minimum properties: I=0.212 in^4/ft, Sp=0.234 in^3/ft, Sn=0.247 in^3/ft, Fy=33 ksi 6. 1-1/2" wide rib roof deck with design thickness 0.0474" (18 gauge) shall have the following minimum properties: I=0.292 in^4/ft, Sp=0.318 in^3/ft, Sn=0.327 in^3/ft, Fy=33 ksi 7. 3" roof deck with design thickness 0.0358" (20 gauge) shall have the following minimum properties: I=0.964 in^4/ft, Sp=0.501 in^3/ft, Sn=0.552 in^3/ft, Fy=33 ksi 8. 3" roof deck with design thickness 0.0474" (18 gauge) shall have the following minimum properties: I=1.334 in^4/ft, Sp=0.688 in^3/ft, Sn=0.749 in^3/ft, Fy=33 ksi 9. 2" acoustical roof deck with design thickness 0.0474" (18 gauge) shall be Epic ER2RA or CSi Versa-Dek LS or approved equal. 10. See roof deck attachment plan for deck size, design thickness, attachment method and pattern, sidelap fasteners, and location. 11. Do not support ducts, ceilings, lights, plumbing, sprinklers, etc. from the roof deck. 12. Roof deck shall be welded to supports, both perpendicular and parallel to the deck, with 5/8" or 3/4" diameter puddle welds and fastened at sidelaps with No. 10 or No. 12 screws as indicated on deck attachment plan.
