Reflections from ParticipantsArgentina, Ezeiza – Unit 31 Ezeiza Women’s Prison “Me, in my addict condition, I have very low self-esteem, It’s good to come to this workshop and hear that I am a valuable person.”

Brazil, Sao Paulo – Penitenciaria Pinheiros “For me, the Peace Education Program makes me think differently before I act. Thank you so much for your help.” Florida, Miami – Metro West Detention Center (MWDC) men “I can’t change what I did but I can make my future better.” “I’ve been in prison 17 years. “People are always saying this is hell. Prem Rawat talks about experiencing heaven on earth by appreciating what we have, not always looking at what we don’t have.”

Reflections from ParticipantsWellington, NZ – Arohata Women’s Prison “Don't always evaluate yourself through the eyes of the world. Justbe yourself, look inside you and be strong. That is what I have learnedfrom PEP.”

California, Los Angeles – Twin Towers Jail (men) “I’ve spent 30 days in jail. I feel I’ve learned my lesson. There are better ways to correct bad behavior than imprisonment. Programs are a good alternative. Clarity is the key.” “This is one of the most important classes I have attended, because it talks about Real Life, and it teaches you how to live and enjoy your life better.” Hamilton, NZ – Springhill Correctional Facility “PEP has made me think seriously about choices.”

How PEP Influences Attitudes What facilitators have observed worldwide:

Very individual the way a participant’s attitude changes as a result of engaging with PEP.

An observation from a PEP Facilitator:

“When a person becomes to see their value more, they tend not to be so angry and reactive. The Prison environment tends to generate a degree of misbehaviour and reactivity.Prison Officers report that PEP participants become more self-reflective and less reactive within the prison environment.”

How PEP Influences Attitudes What facilitators have observed worldwide: PEP Participants:*Become more self-aware*Feel a greater sense of empowerment*Feel more value as a person*Victim mentality changes*Change their perspective - “Where I am now doesn’t define how I move forward and where I end up.”

How PEP Influences Attitudes What facilitators have observed worldwide.

Builds understanding about the innate ‘tools”you have at your disposal rather than the focus being on what you lack.

This understanding can alter how you see yourself. Such an understanding supports your ability to move forward.

How PEP Influences Attitudes What facilitators have observed worldwide.

The curriculum content directs participants to reflect on the good in their lives – the appreciation of beingalive. This understanding can influence the outcome of a persons day no matter what their circumstances.

How PEP Influences Attitudes What facilitators have observed worldwide. Participants change their attitude towards others. This results in an improved quality of interaction with other people. Works well alongside other education programmes including drug and alcohol programmes.

How PEP Influences Attitudes What facilitators & participants have observedworldwide.

Program highlights the power of choice and how once you feel you have choices, that understanding can influence your day to day behaviour and outcomes.
