Display optionsThe AKD comes with the option of a full graphical display or blank cover, this item can be used when the drives is under the complete control of the ADAP-KOOL® system manager or gateway via the AK Lon network. One big breakthrough with the AKD 10 is the use of wizard driven menu structure which has been construct-ed with the assistance of engineers from the field of refrigeration. The programming method talks in language familiar to the industry and make the job of commisioning extremely simple indeed. An inbuilt “pack controller” is standard within the drives software this may be used for compressors or multi motor condenser fans. The LCP allows for up to different languages (including Chinese) these languages must be specified at manu-facturing stage as the drive holds up to six languages within its memory. The info button makes the need for a printed manual virtually redundant. The automatic Motor Adaption, wizard menu and large plain language display makes the AKD a breeze to set up commision and live with.

Hot pluggable LCP The local control panel (LPC) can be plugged or unplugged during operation. Settings are easily trans-ferred via the LCP from one drive to another. Alternatively the MCT10 software can be used via a PC.

Compressor features Benefits

• Running in current limit at min. speed – Reduce starts and stops of the compressor which leads to increased life time

• High starting torque – Provides higher torque at a set time for starting the compressor

• Thermostat/Pressostat function – Compressor can be stopped based on a feedback signal from the system

• Injection on/off

– All AKV valves will be closed by the system controller when compressors are not

running, due to an alarm within the network

• PO optimization– Optimisation of the evaporation pressure/

temperature based upon a signal from the highest loaded case within the plant

• Pack Controller – Ability to control up to compressors in a pack

Compressor features

Set point in temperature The AKD calculates the actual room temperature from the pressure in the cooling media – a library of more than 0 refrigerants can be chosen from- and refines the compressor operation accordingly – without the need for additional software, sensors or controllers. This calculation is also applicable to the set point as well, so the desired temperature is set via the Local Control Panel – and not a pressure value.

“Anti-short cycle time”Anti–short cycle time can be programmed directly into the AKD via the Local Control Panel, and is dictated by the minimum time between starts given by the compres-sor manufacturer. This feature extends the mechanical lifetime of the compressor.

Control of bypass valveTo extend life even further, the AKD opens a bypass valve and lets the compresser start quickly without load. The AKD provides 10% break away torque and can give 110% torque for 0 seconds in normal operation. This torque demand would normally require larger and more expensive drives.

Scroll

The scroll compressors are gaining market share in the refrigeration applications. The AKD have dedicated refrigeration system functions to control these compressors.

Piston

The piston compressor is a very versatile compressor and the compressor type is widely used in food-retail applications. A piston compressor with an AKD gains lifetime as well as COP.

Auto tune PID controllers can control refrigeration system functions with fans, pumps and compressors. Valuable data points are saved.

Single compressor or compressor pack:The AKD will benefit both applica-tions. The drive can be used to control a pack of or compressors without adding additional controls – every-thing is built in! The drive can also provide the same level of flexibility with one large compressor instead of a pack of smaller compressors.

On board pack controller as standard

The AKD 102 comes with a pack controller on board as standard. The controller is limited to control-ling a maximum of three compres-sors, one as variable speed and the other two as fixed speeds.

This can eliminate the need for extra external controls add simplicity and save cost

Features and Functionality• Controlling one variable speed and

up to two fixed speed compressors.• Cycling of fixed speed compressors

due to running hours.• Short cycling protection • Fixed speed compressor control in a

fail situation.

Neutral zone controller• All zones and delays have a corre-

sponding parameter, which allows unsymmetrical zones.

• Neutral zone is symmetrical around the set-point.

Staging/de-staging threshold• The threshold of staging and de-

staging of a fixed speed compressor can be set with respect to the speed of the variable speed compressor. The idea is to smoothen out the capacity jump when staging or de-staging a fixed speed compressor.

Fixed speed compressor start• Direct on line start.• Soft starter.• Possibility to start fixed speed

compressor before ramping down of variable speed compressor.

• Possibility to delay stop of fixed speed compressor after ramping up on variable speed compressor.

Fixed speed compressor control in fail situation

• The AKD continues to control fixed speed compressors in situations where the variable speed compres-sor fails.

• Neutral zone is in a fail situation set by a special parameter ”Fixed speed neutral zone”, which gives the opportunity to have fewer starts by expanding the neutral zone.

Pump Cascade ControllerThe Pump Cascade Controller is the most sophisticated controller on the market.

It distributes running hours evenly across all pumps, keeps wear and tear on individual pumps to a minimum and ensures that all pumps are in great shape.

CondenserEvaporator

Reduced ice build-up and optimized evaporator temperature leads to lower energy consumption and higher system efficiency. The energy consumption is reduced by always matching capacity to the actual load.

Monitors broken belt, dry pump and “end-of-curve”From the relation between current and speed, the AKD reliably recog-nizes “effortless” high speed – where the desired pressure is not reached despite of the speed, and indicates a broken belt, a dry pump or a major leak.

The drive sets off an alarm, shuts off the pump, or performs another programmed action.

First cost and down-time is reduced and equipment is protected.

Optimal control leads to stabilized pressure in the condensor. This ensures better control of the pressure difference between evaporator and condenser and a better COP for the compressor. The control of airflow is matched to the actual need resulting in decreased audible noise and energy consumption.

AKD drives offer a vast number of pump-specific features developed in cooperation with OEMs, contractors and manufacturers around the world.

Sleep Mode In Sleep Mode the drive detects situations with low or no flow. Instead of continuous operation it boosts the system pressure and then stops to save energy. The drive starts automatically when the pressure falls below the lower set point.

Pump features Benefits

• Pump Cascade Controller – Keeps wear and tear on individual pumps to a minimum

• Sleep Mode – Save energy

• Dry Pump Protection – Protect the pump– Save energy

• End of Curve – Protects the pump – Reduce energy consumption

• Flow compensation – Saves energy

Disconnect switch availableMounting the optional disconnect swich on the front of B, C, D or E enclosures eliminates the need for an external swich-box.

LPC Panel mounting kitThe kit lets you mount the LCP in a IP 5 cabinet front.

Sinewave filtersWhen the speed of a motor is con-trolled by a drive, resonance noise from the motor can occur. This is due to the construction of the motor and the switching of IGBTs. The frequence of the resonance will correspond to the switching frequence of the drive.

In applications where the noise is undesirable, Danfoss offers Sinewave filters for the AKD 10 to dampen the acoustics.

These filters are installed electrically between the AKD 10 and the motor to reduce voltage rise time (dv/dt), peak voltage (Vmax) and the ripple current to the motor, thus reducing the noise generated.

Sinewave filters must be ordered seperately and field installed by the customer.
