Why we chose Bullying? It’s a global problem Yet it is local in nature immediately affecting us in daily life If we can make a difference in our school in
a week, then we can do it everywhere to show the world that we have the power
to be the harbingers of change

We conducted an Awareness Drive on What is bullying? On 3rd Oct’11(Monday)
We, Lead Changers gave a power point presentation
to students of all classes
Awareness created about what exactly is bullying, the causes & effects of the same

We incorporated a small animated video on bullying & the song ‘Never say never…’by Justin Bieber from the movie ‘Karate Kid’
We undertook a pledge to combat bullying, as a school community
We collected feedback about our awareness drive through a small questionnaire regarding the understanding of our initiative & the problem we were addressing

We adopted Jiminy Cricket – the conscience keeper from the story ‘Pinocchio’
Our teachers told the story of Pinocchio to all our young friends & the role Jiminy Cricket played
We agreed upon to listen to the small voice inside us that tells us right from wrong
We decided to wear badges of the same to remind ourselves that we need to carry our conscience always

We had Role Play in morning assemblies wherein Jiminy Cricket would introduce the case & give solution at the end of the play as to how to avoid or handle such situation

leading to incidents of bullying

Step VII After a series of activities & discussions we had
figured out a way to tackle bullying head on in schools
We had a Focus Group Discussion on 12th Oct’11 (Wednesday)
We worked on Anti-Bullying Policy & Code of conduct for all areas in school
We formed help groups & help boxes for the students to reach us in case of bullying

Did we feel the change? We tried evaluating & measuring the change
through feedback forms, one to one with student representatives, class teachers, discussion, etc
But the evaluation table that we designed helped us to put the statistics practically
Our efforts had some impact in a week’s time but we have promised ourselves to carry it forever

Analysis of our study Around 31 incidents of bullying had
occurred when we started this initiative (observed during 3rd – 7th Oct’11)
As we reached the end of our initiative we had just 14 incidents of bullying which is nearly 50% reduction of the cases (observed during 10th – 14th Oct’11)
