• FIPS 201 (Federal Information Processing Standards

Publication 201) is a 2006 publication that defines the

Personal Identity Verification (PIV) of federal

employees and contractors.

• In August of 2004 the Homeland Security Presidential

Directive 12 (HSPD 12) was issued to standardize

federal security measures.

• In response to HSPD-12, FIPS 201 was developed to

define the technical requirements for identification and

authentication of Federal employees and contractors

for access to Federal facilities and information

systems with a PIV smart card.

• Mandates the type of Smart Card and Card Reader

per application

AD-Series meets FIPS 201

• Two FIPS 201 compliant options are available in the AD-Series;

AD-301 Hardwired and AD-401 Wireless

• The AD-301 and AD-401 meet the following criteria to achieve

FIPS 201 certification:

– Sold and installed as a complete system from the factory with

specific FIPS201 Compliant components including the lock, panel

interface and reader (see subsequent slides for specifics)

– A specific Wiegand communication to the access control panel

(ACP)

– Read PIV/PIV-ll Compliant Smart Cards via FMK Reader

– Maintain specific hardware and firmware versions from the factory

per certification

• The AD-Series cannot be upgraded in the field to achieve FIPS

201 compliance
