16/59 Actuator Sensor Interface Overview Application modules comprise a top section and a base sec- tion. The top section contains all the electronics and connec- tions for sensors and actuators. The insulation penetration tech- nique is implemented here. Actuator Sensor Interface

■ Overview

Application modules comprise a top section and a base sec-tion. The top section contains all the electronics and connec-tions for sensors and actuators. The base section (coupling module) accepts the AS-Inter-face flat cables. Contact is au-tomatically made with the flat cables when the top section is screwed to the base section. The insulation penetration tech-nique is implemented here.

Auxiliary power (additional sup-ply for outputs) is connected ei-ther via an M12 plug on the side of the top section or via the black AS-Interface cable and the base section with an ex-panded electromechanical in-terface (EEMI). In order to con-nect a module (input module) exclusively to the yellow AS-In-terface cable, the base section with the standard electrome-chanical interface (EMS) is suf-ficient.

Both variants have compatible connections, so input modules, for example, will also fit base sections with an expanded electromechanical interface.

The integral M12 sockets for connecting sensors and actua-tors have 5 pins. The fifth pin is not connected and is imple-mented as a "blind hole".

Module base sections/coupling modulesModule base sections are avail-able for the AS-Interface flat ca-bles (FK coupling module) and for round cables (Pg coupling module).

In the FK coupling modules, both cable guides are electri-cally connected in parallel to enable branching of the AS-In-terface cable (tree topology).

FK-E coupling modules have one cable guide for the yellow AS-Interface flat cable and one cable guide for the black cable.

AddressingApplication module can be ad-dressed using an addressing

unit (3RK1 904-2AB00) or via the master.

Mounting

The coupling module is screwed or snapped onto a 35 mm standard rail. Four seal-ing covers are supplied in the coupling module. They can be used to seal any unused cable inlets.

The AS-Interface cable is laid in the module. It latches into a guide which is located above the contact blades and is me-chanically attached. Electrical contact is not established at this point. Sealing covers are in-serted in the unused cable in-lets.

The application module is screwed in place which presses the AS-Interface cable onto the contact blades. They penetrate each core at two locations and guarantee reliable connection. Provided that the module is as-sembled correctly, it has the IP 67 degree of protection.

LED diagnostics indication

Note on LED indication of mod-ules with electronic and relay outputs: In the case of relay out-puts, the relay can also be acti-vated when an auxiliary voltage is not applied such that the LED for the associated output is lit. In the case of activated elec-tronic outputs, the LED is only lit when the auxiliary voltage is applied.

LED indication for application modules of the PNP type

The AS-Interface chip "SAP4" is implemented in AS-Interface application modules of the NPN type. This allows a dual LED to be implemented which can be used for diagnostic information.
