God mounts his throne to shouts of joy: a blare of trumpets for the Lord

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;

through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation He came down from heaven, (at the words that follow up to and including and became man, all bow)

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate, He suffered death and was buried,

and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of life, Who proceeds from the Father and the Son, Who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, Who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will.

We praise You, we bless You, we adore You, we glorify You, We give You thanks for Your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.

Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, You take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; You take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer;

You are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.

For You alone are the Holy One, You alone are the Lord, You alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the Glory of God the Father. Amen.

Sing we triumphant hymns of praise, to greet our Lord these festive days, Alleluia, Alleluia! Who by a road before untrod, ascended to the throne of God,

Alleluia, Alleluia! Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

O risen Christ, ascended Lord, all praise to you let earth accord, Alleluia, Alleluia! Who are, while endless ages run, with Father and with Spirit, One.

To God the Father let us sing, to God the Son, our risen King, Alleluia, Alleluia! And equally let us adore, the Holy Spirit evermore.

Mt 28: 20; RM; Music by illuminarepublications.com

Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of Hosts. Heaven and earth are full of Your glory.

Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.

Priest: The mystery of faith. All: Save us, Savior of the world,

For by your Cross and Resurrection You have set us free.

Lamb of God, You take away the sins of the world: Have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world: Have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world: Grant us peace.

(Admin. by EMI Christian Music Publishing) CCLI Song # 4447960

Worthy is the Lamb Who was slain; Holy, holy is He; Sing a new song to Him Who sits on Heaven's mercy seat.

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty. Who was and is and is to come;

With all creation I sing praise to the King of kings; You are my everything and I will adore You.

Clothed in rainbows of living color, flashes of lightning, rolls of thunder;

Blessing and honor, strength and glory and power be to You, the only wise King.

Filled with wonder, awestruck wonder, at the mention of Your name;

Jesus, Your name is power, Breath and living water,

such a marvelous mystery.

Ike Ndolo and Robbie Seay © 2009 Birdwing Music (Admin. by EMI Christian Music Publishing) / spiritandsong.com CCLI Song # 5657876

We will stand for You with hearts restored and new. Now's the time to raise our hands outstretched in praise.

Jesus, Jesus, at the sound of Your name Every knee will bow down, we will shout Your praise.

This Church will follow You; our sight has been renewed. Consume us by Your grace and save us from the grave.

Cantor: You make all things new. All: You make all things new.

Spring semester has come to a close and we’re taking a brief pause in ministry for the rest of May; but we’re continuing to pray for all of you. By now you’ve probably seen the notice that Steubenville West won’t take place in 2020 and that EDGE Camp is cancelled. We’re still exploring some alternatives for middle school youth, so stay tuned. A special thanks to all of our core members!

God bless you, — Meagan Martinez, Director of Youth Ministry — Miguel Nuñez, Coordinator of Youth Ministry

Enrollment is now open for the 2020-21 school year! For our K-8 Catholic School, please see www.sttimothymesa.org/school or call (480) 775-2650. Encountering Christ

Men, we need YOUR help! Our 23rd annual Men’s Retreat, led by Matthew Leonard, a respected Catholic Evangelist, is currently sched-uled for November 20-22 at Prescott Pines Camp. Recognizing that the Retreat is still six months away, we are in the process of discerning how to move forward given the current economic and health concerns associated with the unknowns of the pandemic. Please go to www.surveymonkey.com/r/2PN7C8V and let us know whether you prefer a weekend Retreat or a Day of Renewal for the men of our Par-ish. (The Day of Renewal would be conducted at St. Timothy Satur-day, November 21.) At your earliest convenience, please take a few moments to select your preferences because our Men-of-Iron Core Team will use your input to make a decision in June. Thank you!

By Joe Cady Director of Adult Faith Formation Part 1 of 4 “It is better for you that I go.” I don’t know about you, but I’ve always been a little perplexed by these words of Jesus during the Last Supper. In the midst of speaking of His return to the Father, Jesus says, “I tell you the truth, it is better for you that I go” (Jn 16:7). Wait, what? Better? How could it be better for Jesus to leave? To give this some context, and to really highlight the significance of this statement (and why I’m confused by it), we have to remember that the life and ministry of Jesus Christ in the world is the pivotal event in human history. If that seems like an overstatement, take a minute to consider again exactly who this Jesus of Nazareth was. Unlike all previous revelations, where God spoke in “partial and various ways through the prophets” (Heb 1:1), Jesus is “the Father’s one, perfect, and unsurpassable Word. In Him He has said everything” (CCC 65). All prior revelations had been God revealing himself through someone else, but in Jesus of Nazareth, God

reveals Himself through His very self; for as St. Paul says, Jesus is “the image of the invisible God” (Col 1:15), “the very imprint of His being” (Heb 1:3). Jesus was truly man, but He was no mere man; “for in Him the fullness of God was pleased to dwell” (Col 1:19). This means that the presence of Jesus Christ in the world, moving and living among us, was the very presence of God in our midst. Jesus is truly Emmanuel, God with us. With this in mind, why would it be better for Jesus to return to the Father? What could possibly be better than Jesus continuing to remain with us here on earth… even after His resurrection? God’s here, He’s with us, why go? Well, remember that when Jesus was here on earth the Divine presence was in a certain sense tied to Jesus’ actual, physical location at any given time. So, while it is true that the power and presence of God broke into creation in a new and unprecedented way through the incarnation and in the person of Jesus of Nazareth, this presence was always connected to the particular time and space that He occupied. God had indeed visited His people and made His dwelling

among them, but this presence was localized in the humanity of Jesus. But things were about to change… During the Last Supper, as Jesus speaks of His departure from this world and His return to the Father, He mentions another Advocate (or helper), the Holy Spirit, that will be sent among them after He leaves. And in fact, this coming of the Spirit, He says, is the very reason why it is better that He departs; He says, “I tell you the truth, it is better for you that I go, for if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you” (Jn 16:7). Today we celebrate the Ascension of Jesus into Heaven, His return to the Father. And while it might seem strange that Jesus would leave us in this way, we are reminded in today’s readings that Jesus’ departure is not the end of the story. His final words to the Apostles are: “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8). Next week we will take a closer look at the promised gift of the Spirit and how it opens up a new chapter in God’s plan of restoration.
