Next Wednesday night
will be our traditional
Thanksgiving service.
Come prepared to give a testimony praising
God for the good things He has done.
I like to emphasize things from the current
year, but you can do as you feel you should.
Let’s try to limit ourselves to three or four minutes.
4
Paul met with James
and the elders of the
church.
5
A bunch of unbelieving Jews from
Asia accused him of teaching against
Jewish beliefs and of profaning the
temple by taking a Gentile in.
They were about to kill him, when
the Roman soldiers rescued him.
Paul asked to speak to them, and
the Roman’s chief leader let him.
The speech
6
Acts 22 1 Men, brethren, and fathers, hear ye my
defense which I make now unto you.
He opened with a friendly salutation.
They were trying to kill him, but he was not their
enemy, and he wanted them to know it.
Proverbs 15:1 (KJV) A soft (gentle) answer turneth
away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.
We should apply this message to our
personal witness efforts.
7
2 (And when they heard that he spake in the He-
brew tongue to them, they kept the more silence:)
He spoke their language.
That he spoke Greek impressed the Roman soldier.
That he speaks Hebrew gets the Jew’s attention.
Identify with your audience, even if it’s an
audience of one.
8
For a doctor to
communicate with his
patient, he must speak in
layman’s language.
For a Christian to be an
effective witness, he must
not use religious speak –
He must speak words used
by his audience.

2b-3 and he saith, I am verily a man which am a
Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up
in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught
according to the perfect manner of the law of the
fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are
this day.
Recognizing that they’re zealous to do God’s work.
He would get nowhere insulting them.
They are as Paul was before he was saved.
Gamaliel
“As ye all are”
10
Acts 5:34 (KJV) Then stood there up one in the
council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of
the law, had in reputation among all the people, …
In giving this background, Paul is showing that he
is not a man likely to turn against the Jews.
Paul was taught by a respected doctor of the
Law of Moses.
11
4-5 And I persecuted this Way (Christianity) unto
the death, binding and delivering into prisons both
men and women. As also the high priest doth bear
me witness, and all the estate of the elders: from
whom also I received letters unto the brethren, and
went to Damascus, to bring them which were there
bound unto Jerusalem, for to be punished.
Paul had been as zealous in persecuting Christians
as these Jews were now.
He understands and identifies with them.
12
6 -7And it came to pass, that, as
I made my journey, and was
come nigh unto Damascus
about noon, suddenly there
shone from Heaven a great
light round about me. And I fell
unto the ground, and heard a
voice saying unto me, Saul,
Saul, why persecutest thou Me?
It would have taken such a dramatic event to
convince Paul that Jesus is Messiah and Lord.
Personal
testimony
13
8 And I answered, Who art thou,
Lord? And He said unto me, I
am Jesus of Nazareth, Whom
thou persecutest. 9 And they that
were with me saw indeed the
light, and were afraid; but they
heard not the voice of Him that
spake to me.
Anything done to the church is done to
Jesus
14
Acts 4:12 (KJV) Neither is there salvation in any
other: for there is none other Name under Heaven
given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Fussing at people for their sins will not get
them saved from their sins.
Tell them how much God loves them.John 3:16
Teach them how to be saved from sin and from hell.Romans 10:9-10
