ACTIVITY REPORT 2015 5

Letter from the President

As every year, I have been requested to review what the previous year has offered and explain how we intend to face the following . This time however, you will have to excuse me, as I will be brief and focus more on what is to come, considering that this coming December we will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the birth of Sant Tomàs .What will the future bring to us? How can we make the most out of this experience and continue moving forward? These two are the main questions that as a parent and as a member of the Board of Directors I ask myself.

I think that we need to keep the person in the centre, as the main di-mension, innovating and seeking resources, supports and alternatives, expanding the range of services, specialising and adjusting them to the requirements and needs of the moment. Always having an overall broad vision, seeking as many complicities as possible and ensuring that the project is sustainable. I think that the 2015-2017 strategic plan, which was drafted by representatives of all those who are part of Sant Tomàs, collects all these concerns and tries at the same time to articu-late the mechanisms that will respond to different future scenarios.

Things have fortunately changed a lot over the last 50 years but we have managed to keep the essence and the spirit of those families who, with the help of many institutions and civil society, began to write a successful story with a great future, of at least 50 years, in 1966.

GETTING READY FOR THE FUTURE!

Mr Antoni Ramírez i JuvanyPresident

MISSION 7

StrategicDimensionsSant Tomàs has arranged a new strategic plan for the period 2015-2017 in order to adapt the organization to the changing environment and lead it towards future trends. It aims to maintain its ability to respond to the growing needs of care and its sustainability. Environmental changes and future trends have been grouped into five areas: the macroeconomic situation (economic crisis, under-funding and limited access to credit), the role of the government (uncertain scenarios in the care model), the management model (networking and strategic alliances), the challenges of the organizations (innovation and sustainability) and citizenship (joint responsibility and participation)

The plan is divided into 5 strategic dimensions :

PeopleImproving the quality of life and satisfaction of the people in carrying out their vital project with greater autonomy and participation.

Vital environment, society and territory Promoting social and community changes, involving both the government and the main stakeholders to improve the conditions of equality, accessibility and sustainability in our environment.

Supports and services Focusing efforts on providing quality aid in a sustainable way to improve the autonomy of people.

Social economy initiatives and finding resources Ensuring progress and sustainability for the different projects of the organiza-tion as well as the labour, education and social services .

Excellence in our servicesThe Integrated Management System (IMS ) has people in charge in the diffe-rent areas of the entity so that the IMS becomes a tool to support management which is developed in each service and promotes the involvement and aware-ness of all professionals in order to be able to carry out the proper actions to improve the organization.

During 2015, the Area of Quality of Sant Tomàs has expanded the scope of its certification, in particular, the management of safety and health at work (norm OHSAS 18001 : 2007) to CDIAP Tris Tras and maintained and reviewed the implementation of the IMS in the different services to suit the new regulations. It has also incorporated several improvements in the quality procedures of some areas due to the introduction of the new Entigest program.

DigitizationThe Estel School has implemented the digital platform “Clickedu” and has acquired 4 computers, 6 laptops, 2 touch laptos and 2 tablets. The Residence Clarella in Manlleu has started offering users leisure activities using new tech-nologies and internet access by using an electronic tablet.

The Occupational Centre has presented a project to the program of Solidary Territories of BBVA called “Alternative and augmentative communication sys-tems. Tablets, a new era of communication” through which tablets and compu-ters have been bought in order to improve the communication between users with sensory deficits and the educators, with all the benefits that this offers to the person.

The Riudeperes Centre uses tablets to perform activities chosen by its resi-dents and this centre is also working on the development and computerization of a single comprehensive evaluation document.

The training and job placement Service “Eina” has developed the “Im-plica’t “ project in which one of the main actions is to develop a practical and useful app for users.

The Tac - Osona has begun to work on the “Entigest People” program with the aim of managing the whole monitoring process of people with disabilities. It has also started the implementation of the Robotics program to improve the attendance control of their workers.

SOCIAL AND EDUCATIONAL SERVICES

SOCIAL AND TRAINING SERVICES 15

The Centre for Child Development and Early Attention (CDIAP ) Tris Tras is a specialized centre that performs a set of health care and preventive actions, aimed at children aged 0 to 6 years, who have some developmental disorders or are in a situation of social/psychological and/or biological risk. This Centre is involved in the difficulties in parenting that can alter the growth process, and it also provides support in schooling in nurseries and kindergartens, and promotes prevention and training to the families. The CDIAP Tris Tras professionals work in different areas of intervention: the child and his family, as a unit of development and the society.

Innovation and networking:The Tris Tras is one of the drivers of the accreditation system of services for ear-ly attention that has been promoted by the Secretariat of Social Inclusion and Promotion of Personal Autonomy (SISPAP) to ensure the quality of services and the requirements for the entire network of CDIAP. For the first time, it has obtained certification in OSHAS (Management System of Occupational Safety and Health) that provides for a series of specifications on health and safety at work. The professionals of this Centre keep being trained in the methodology of family-centered work with the help of FEAPS and DINCAT and incorporating this model of care professional practice. Along these lines, it has participated in the study promoted by Ramon Llull University and the University of Minho (Portugal) “Evaluation of family-centered practices and family results in early care centres. Development of a scale for families “.

DivulgationTris Tras Centre organizes talks for families regarding motor development and stimulation for children aged 0 to 18 months in nurseries in the region, and also about rules and limits for children aged 0 to 3 years. For what concerns the child care professionals, it organizes lectures on patterns of observation to detect problems in children. Meetings with different groups of support among parents are promoted, as the “parent group network”, which is dedicated to parents with a child with difficulties in preschool, or as the “colour group”, which is a space for parents with children who have a disorder autism spec-trum. The “Parent to Parent group” , where parents of Estel school and CDIAP meet occasionally to share their experiences.

ESPAI VIU It is a private service driven by a group of parents of the Association which provides assistance to children and youth up to 18 years in need of intervention in the motor, cognitive, educational, communicative and/or emotional areas. It is a service that aims to provide continuity to the care service offered by the CDIAP TRIS TRAS. In 2015, forty children have been attended , fourteen in the area of physiotherapy, twenty-two in the area of psychology and four in the area of speech therapy.

The Occupational Centre (OC) is the alternative to the employment of adults with intellectual disabilities. The centre aims to develop personal setting acti-vities and to create a space that promotes social integration through activities and defined and attractive projects that motivate and activate the assisted person. This social integration is achieved by sharing experiences with different agents of the territory with the aim of moving towards a new social model and enhance the skills and abilities that each person has thus enhancing their self-esteem.

Innovation and networking In the past year, we worked to make an approach to a system based on an Person Centered Planning model. We analysed the preferences and values of the assisted people with the purpose of providing opportunities for personal development and involving them in the daily routine of the centre. In this line, the OC is involved in the project “Transformations OC of Dincat .” In order to ensure the sustainability of the OC and, due to the decrease in recruitment of productive services, we have had to redirect our activity by creating the new brand of social craft “hand in hand”. The project consists of a new corporate image and an online platform where you can buy all the pro-ducts made by the users of the OC. During the Christmas season chocolate nougats and wafers were also been made for workers and their families, as part of the cupcakes development project initiated by the OC a year ago. This new initiative has been possible thanks to the collaboration of the master craftsman “Xocolater Taradell” and the company “Sarrats , Llevats i millorants” of Girona.Talking about the networking, the OC collaborates with the educational proposal of the Department of Education of the Generalitat of Catalonia as a center where students from Secondary School have been able to carry out the community service project “Community Service”. In this line, the OC has also initiated a project in schools to raise the awareness of students with the diver-sity in the society.

This year, thanks to winning the prize Toni Manc-hón the project “Age actively” has also been able to offer individualized activities to aging people of the centre. At the same time, the center promotes the development of the highest degree of personal and social autonomy and gives a good interaction with the environment, promoting social inclusion and the exercise of rights as citizens organising trips and leisure activities (Port Aventura, Camp Nou, the Zoo or participating in works-hops). In order to perform these activities, the centre often has volunteers or groups of popular culture who selflessly give their time. The centre also provides support to families or guardians in relation to the assited person in the residence or day care service through the family support group, mee-tings with families, training and lectures. This year, we have worked on the protec-ted heritage. The objective of the Riudeperes Centre is to ensure a progressive ori-entation, planning and implementation of the model of care focused on the person. In this line, we train our professionals so that assisted people can have safe mobility. New instruments to improve the care of disabled users will be purchased. The Special Work Centre Tac - Osona is a social enterprise in which most of the workers are people with intellectual disabilities. Through different work sections, the Tac - Osona employees develop their work with the support of a human team with instructors, psychologists and social workers.

Innovation and networking This year, despite having 105 new hires, the total number of disabled users workers has not changed. However, the increase is due to the need to cover the (temporary or permanently) sick leaves, either because of health or age. In parallel, we have assisted fifty eight people and /or their families have approac-hed the Tac - Osona to ask for a job. Six people with disabilities have got a job in ordinary companies after spending a period of time in our special workplace centre. This is a very positive development in relation to the sector figures. In the accompaniment and support for the integration, we have implemented the training project on the cleaning section, which started in 2014 in the sec-tion of industrial services. During 2015 forty four people have benefited from this support methodology for job placement through the support and apprecia-tion of the people in need of help. Tac–Osona has trained several professionals, in this case 11 technicians on Planning Person Centered subjects in order to include this methodology in the development of individual plans of the users workers, improving the opportu-nities and the quality of life of them. This year, we have offered two editions of the monitoring course taught by technicians of the USAP, designed to moni-tors that have joined the workforce during 2015. This course aims to equip pro-fessionals with the necessary knowledge in relation to intellectual disabilities and behavioral disorders.
