1. General overview The Delft Univ. of Technology Chapter was running with a few activities in 2017.

The members of the chapter are 23 people currently. Most of the members are

coming from the optics research group of the Delft University of Technology,

especially the PhD students in the group. During the last few months, several new

PhD students joint the group. The student chapter are managing to attract more

students to join the chapter by organizing different events and activities.

During this year, three activities had been held, they were the Lichtjesavond,

Tikibad social activity and Yes!Delft visiting event. Optics outreach kit was used

during the Lichtjesavond, the light evening event which held in Delft every year.

The new chapter officers had been elected. Paolo, the first year PhD student from

Italy, is the new president of the student chapter. Po-Sheng, the first year PhD

student from Taiwan, is the vice-president. Daniel, the senior PhD student in the

optics research group, is the new treasurer of the chapter. Prof. Paul Urbach, the

th December. This year SPIE student

chapter together with the optics research group of the Delft University of

Technology will also have a optics booth in the city center. The Optics Outreach

Kit will be used at the same time.

b. Socializing activities for student members Some social activities are planning to be held in the coming year.

c. Visiting 1-2 companies in the optics/photonics industry For giving chapter members a better chance to understand the optics/photonics

industry, the student chapter will keep arranging companies visiting activities. A

visiting activity to Mapper has been contacted recently. Mapper is a company

based in Delft. The core business of the company are designing and

manufacturing machines for the production of computer chips (integrated circuits

or ICs).

d. Promoting the EOSAM conference EOSAM is the biennial Meeting of the European Optical Society. This time the

meeting will take place at the Delft University of Technology, in October 08 - 12,

2018. Netherlands is the hot spot for photonics in Europe and the strong optics

research and industry in Delft makes it a perfect location to hold the upcoming

symposium. The meeting will include several topical meetings, tutorials, company

visits, workshops, industrial exhibition, and more.

This is a great opportunity to promote the student chapter in the local area. The

student chapter will promote this event and the student chapter itself by using

social media, flyer…etc.
