Project name: “Ford Driving Skills For Life”- The Academy

Date Completed: March 28 th , 2018

Brief project description: Students at Fayetteville High School and in Criminal Justice classes, as well as faculty, registered and participated in “The Academy” of “Ford Driving Skills for Life”. We received confirmation from at least fourteen students and four faculty members. Approximately fifty-seven criminal justice students participated as part of classroom curriculum.

Degree of involvement of the school body - were school clubs, sports teams involved? How many students were involved in organizing this event? Offered incentives (free tee shirts) to entire student body to register and participate. Extra credit point were offered to criminal justice students as incentive to participate. Approximately eight students were involved in organizing this event.

Approximate number of peers/teens reached: Student body is approximately three hundred and fifty students. Eighteen confirmations of participation, possibly more are unknown

Project name: “No-Texting” Pledge

Date Completed: 12/15/17

Brief project description: Students designed and created a “No-Texting” thumbprint/signature banner and had a local print shop create it. Students raised awareness with a presentation and rally. Tee shirts were given to the student body, as well as gift cards, to random winners in a “texting” simulation/drawing.

Degree of involvement of the school body - were school clubs, sports teams involved? How many students were involved in organizing this event? Approximately nine to ten students organized this event. It was presented to the entire student body.

Project name: Mock Crash

Date Completed: March 23 rd , 2018 at 1:05 P.M.

Brief project description: Students and Criminal Justice Instructor organized a mock texting and driving crash. The event took place on the track in front of the bleachers at Fayetteville High School. The Fayetteville Police Dept., Fayetteville Fire Dept., Lincoln E.M.S., Stovall’s Wrecker Service, Vanderbilt MedFlight, The Elk Valley Times newspaper, Fayetteville Public Utilities (local cable television), F.H.S. Criminal Justice, F.H.S. Media/Journalism, and F.H.S. Cosmetology participated to present a mock traffic crash to the F.H.S. student body and faculty.

Thirteen students were actively involved in organizing this event.

Degree of involvement of community (if any): All local public safety agencies, including the E-911 Communications Center, were involved. The Elk Valley Times sent out messages to the community to notify event and came to take pictures for the newspaper. Fayetteville Public Utilities took video of the event and aired it for the public on local television.

Project name: Distracted Driving/DUI Simulator

Date Completed: 05/22/18

Brief project description: Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department was scheduled to bring the Distracted Driving/DUI Simulator on March 23rd, 2018. Due to circumstances beyond control, this event was postponed to our school “Field Day”, per Principal Eric Jones.

Degree of involvement of the school body - were school clubs, sports teams involved? How many students were involved in organizing this event? N/A- Organized/Coordinated by Criminal Justice Instructor, Drew Young.

Activity available to the entire student body and the eighth graders from Fayetteville Middle School.

Approximate number of peers/teens reached: Approximately four hundred.

Degree of involvement of community (if any): Activity in cooperation with Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department. Fayetteville Middle School eighth graders will have opportunity to participate in activity as “incoming freshmen”.
