ACTIVITIES FOR THE MONTH OF JULY 2016

GUEST LECTURES:

1. An introduction session about the career opportunities and development courses

for the commerce stream is given to II & III year B.Com (General) and B.Com

(C.S.) students on 04/07/2016. Mr. V.S. Vipin, General Manager, CL Educate

Limited, Chennai is the resource person for the session.

2. Department of Commerce organises a Seminar in association with Bombay Stock

Exchange on Financial Investment on 15th July 2016 for the final year students of

B.Com. ( General, C.A., C.S.). The resource persons for the Seminar were Ms.

Sowmya Joseph, Regional Manager and Mr. Meganathan G , Business

Development Executive.

WORKSHOP:

Department of Commerce organises a Workshop in association with

Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) on Financial Education on

25th July 2016 for the second year students of B.Com. (General). The

resource person for the workshop was Mr. Ramesh Sankar from SEBI.

STUDENTS PARTICIPATION:

1. Ms. Saraswathi S of III B.Com. (G) won First prize in Adaptune competition and

received a Glass Top Gas Stove worth Rs. 6,100 in ‘Mangaiyarkana Thiruvila’

from Mr. Gangai Amaran, Music Director. The programme was organised by

Hello F.M. with Dinathanthi and ITC Co., in Kamarajar Arangam on 21st July

2016.

2 . The details of the various competitions held on "World's Consumer Rights" organised

by Citizen Consumer Club of D. G. Vaishnava College, Arumpakkam, Chennai, in

association with the department of civil supplies and consumer Protection,

2. Department of Commerce organised a Guest Lecture on "Professional Courses - An

Insight" on 4th August 2016 for the First Year students of B.Com. & (Corporate

Secretaryship). The Resource Person for the session is S. Venkatesan, Chartered

Accountant, Chennai.

3. Department of Commerce organised a Guest Lecture on "Recruitment Process

Outsourcing" (RPO) for the final year students of B.Com. General and Corporate

Secretaryship on 8th August 2016. Mr. J. S. Sukumar, Cheif Executive Officer of

Udhavi.in - Education & Business Management Consultancy addressed and enlightened

the students on the latest trends and the opportunities in the Recruitment Process

Outsourcing (RPO)".

4. Department of Commerce organized a Guest Lecture on “Investor‟s Perspective on

Mutual Fund” on 16th August 2016 for the final year students of B.Com. (Corporate

Secretaryship) and second year B.Com. (General). Dr. S. Prakash, Senior Manager,

Franklin Templeton International Services, Chennai addressed and enlightened the

students.

5. A team from Sharekhan addressed and enlightened the B.Com (General and Corporate

secretaryship) students on "Stock market and online share trading" on 17th August 2016.

Mr. V. Krishnamurthy, Regional Advisory Manager & Mr. Mohan raj M, Team Manager

Sales graced the occasion and interacted with the students and gave exposure to the

techniques of online trading.

6. Department of Commerce organized a Guest Lecture on “Practical Aspects of Tally” on

18th

August 2016 for the second and final year students of B.Com. (Computer

Applications). Ms. Devaki, Senior Tally Trainer, Kalvi Group Acadamy, Chennai

addressed the students.

ACTIVITIES FOR JANUARY & FEBRUARY 2017

INDUSTRIAL VISIT

Department of Commerce organised an Industrial Visit in

association with Barclays to its Chennai office in DLF IT Park, Porur,

Chennai on 1st February 2017. Selected final year students of B.Com.

(General, Computer Applications and Corporate Secretaryship)

participated in the industrial visit along with the faculty member Mrs. S.

Padmaja, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Commerce. The industrial visit

facilitated a practical exposure of an industry and a small talk on the

corporate culture gave them insight about the expectations of the industry

from their ensuing employees.

STUDENTS ACTIVITIES

1. Artha Vidhya a private institution specialised in skill development

training gave an opportunity to selected Final Year Commerce students to

undergo an online training in Finance and Accounting free of cost. Mr.

Akash of III B.Com. (G) and Ms. Vaishali of III B.Com. (C.S.) has

successfully completed the course securing „A‟ Grade.

MEMBERSHIP IN MADRAS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE & INDUSTRY

Our College has become a member of the Madras Chamber of Commerce

and Industry. The General Committee of the Chamber on 11th

November

unanimously decided to admit our College as its member from November 2017.

GUEST LECTURE:

Department of Commerce organised a Guest Lecture on “Importance of

Banking Examination” in association with T.I.M.E. Institute for the final year

students of B.Com. (General, Computer Applications & Corporate Secretaryship)
