Ribbon Cutting
Saturday October 8th
10AM
Calling all kids help cut
the ribbon and stay for the
games!
This only
happens once
every
100 years!
Saturday October 8th is
a day the Broken Bow
community and Custer
County will create a
history memory!
Ask yourself why the
Broken Bow bandstand
has stood for 100 years?
Ask yourself why other
communities had bandstands and they are not standing now? So let’s CELE-
BRATE!!!
It all starts at 8:00 AM, you can check out craft booths, register for the
run/walk at 8:30, the run/walk will begin at 9:00. Remember $10 entry fee + 2
non perishable items for the Broken Bow Food Pantry. Thank you to Adams
Land & Cattle for sponsoring the run/walk. The play ground is finally done!!
This attraction in the Square will attract more attention to our town. We are
“calling all kids” to come help with the Ribbon Cutting that will be at 10:00
AM, then enjoy the games! For lunch, the Bonfire is providing Chili and corn
bread get there early they will serve while supplies last! Or enjoy a hot dog
from the Girl Scouts.
Paper Plate Toss …. bringing back a fun tradition of Crazy Days gone by will
be the Paper Plate toss. Be in the Square at 10:15; 1:45 and 3:10 as merchants
toss paper plates with great savings. I would call this something like a garter or
bouquet toss at a wedding. Get ready to “catch” some GREAT savings! From
20% to 50% off and even some BOGO items!
Can you imagine living in rural Nebraska without electricity? Come and listen
to Senator George Norris being portrayed in a speech made from the Bandstand
in 1935 and enjoy music from the 1st Nebraska Brass Band. Thank you to Cus-
ter Public Power for providing the speech and band for this celebration. At
2:00 the Broken Bow Honor Guard will present the colors and the National
Anthem will be played by the 1st Nebraska Brass Band in “Civil War” style.
Enjoy anniversary cake and while the 1st Nebraska Band plays, look over the
“Period Piece” Clothing that the Custer County Historical Society is providing!
See you Saturday!

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR MESSAGE Once again, the month and life in
Broken Bow is flying by! All of us with the Chamber and Broken Bow have
an opportunity to take part in a GRAND event with Saturday, October 8th,
when we celebrate the Bandstand. You hear all the time of people driving
through our town, how lovely it looks and how lucky we are to have the
bandstand. Many people have put in time and money to have a day we can
celebrate the Bandstand. I encourage you to look at the events and take part!
Just to let you know, the directory committee is looking to the 2017 directory
and making plans to make it better than ever! Also, even though February is
a few months off, the Events committee is working with the Home & Leisure
Show along with the tasting! This Chamber keeps on the move and it is so
great promoting all your businesses. Enjoy your fall and see you all on the
8th in the Square!
Tree planting in the Square The city crew along with volunteers from the
Beatification committee planted 9 new trees in the Square. To say the down-
town has had some changes this past summer would be an understatement.
I remember 2 years ago being in a meeting when the group was putting out
“goals and dreams” for Broken Bow. A lot of them came to fruition this summer!
Thank you to the City of Broken
Bow for moving forward with
this new look of our town
Square. Besides the trees addi-
tional shrubs and ornamental
grasses were added to the
corners. The Square looks
GREAT!

GROW award presented to Ideal Realty, LLC. Broken Bow continues to grow because business people
continue to do their job. In this case, Broker Agent, Mo Hunsberger recently sold a few properties that had been vacant
for some time in Broken Bow. Now renovation and expansion are taking place! Congratulations to Ideal Realty, LLC
and thanks for keeping Broken Bow growing! Thank you also to Mo and her
staff for a great Open House.
Chamber YOU-niversity provided by Sonya Atkins, MS from Backbone of Healthcare and The Grocery Kart.
A walk through the grocery store aisle gave attendees a good picture on how they can start making better choices on
what they put in their shopping carts. The
main advise that Sonya Atkins, Applied
Clinical Nutrition, could give was read the
labels. If it is not a whole food, or you
cannot pronounce the word, you might
want to find out what it could be. Some of
the information was unbelievable, you
really needed to be there to understand the
importance of making smarter choices. If
you are interested in getting a nutritional
program created, you just need to call for
a consultation to 308-872-2171. Thank
you to Sonya for taking the time and to the
Grocery Kart for allowing the group to
walk through the aisle.
Thank you— I would like to thank the Chamber for the Grow Award I recently received. What a surprise and honor! Broken Bow is growing everyday and I'm proud to be associated with all the different businesses and community mem-bers that are making this happen! Thanks Again! Maureen Hunsberger IDEAL Realty, LLC

Halloween Trick or Treat Monday, October 31st downtown
Businesses are getting ready for the annual downtown Trick or Treat! If you plan to be a part of the Trick or Treat,
please call the office 308-872-5691 so we can get your name on the poster. New this year the Bow FBLA and FFA
Clubs will be collecting items for the Custer County Food Pantry. The clubs will be in the Square during the Trick
or Treat. So bring your items to donate then go Trick or Treat. Also from 4:00—5:00 Girl Scout Troop 846 will
be holding a pumpkin painting contest!
Croquet Tournament— How many of you have played Croquet?
Maybe you played on Sunday afternoon with your Grandparents! If you
did and would like to play again, plan to be in the tournament. Croquet is
a game that all ages can play. In planning the 100th Bandstand celebra-
tion, the committee tried to come up with some “traditional” things to do.
I challenge you to get your family to play a game from Grandparents to
Grandchildren. The bandstand day is all about celebrating the square and
what it means to Broken Bow and Custer County. We are very fortunate
that local businesses and organizations are willing to donate gift cards and
Chamber Bucks for the winner! The winner will receive $100 worth of
shopping around Broken Bow. Games will begin at 9:15, winner of each
game will play in the Championship game at 4:15. If you know you want
to play a game be sure and call the Chamber to register 308-872-5691!
Make a memory with your family and get in the game!
Thanks to following businesses for contributing $10 gift cards:
Broken Bow Floral ~ Bonfire Grill ~ Ortello Dale ~ Chapin’s ~ The Smoke Shack/The Quilt-
ing Shack ~ Bow Booterie ~ Holcomb Pharmacy ~ Kids Kloset ~ Designs of Distinction ~
Broken Bow Lions Club $10 in Chamber Bucks
Sandhills Journey Scenic Byway BARN For 5 months out of the year, 35+ dedicated volunteers greet visitors
to the BARN on the east edge of town. From what I have been told, num-
bers were up this year. The BARN is a “treasure” to the SJSB along Hwy 2
and Broken Bow is very fortunate to have it right here in our town. The
volunteers were thanked for their service with a lunch this past week.
