Our Next Election is: 08/14/2018 STATE PRIMARY
On election day you vote at: PRINCE OF PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH (P-3)
2561 VICTORIA ST N ROSEVILLE, MN 55113
- Or -
Vote early by mail or in person June 29 through August 13.
This is done at the Ramsey County Library Roseville, White Bear Lake or Shoreview!
A primary election determines which candidates will be on the ballot in the November general election. For example, five candidates from one political party might run for governor. Only one candidate can be on the ballot in November. The winner of the August primary election will represent their party on the November election ballot. There may be two kinds of offices on your primary ballot: partisan offices and nonpartisan offices. Partisan offices. Partisan offices will list a political party next to a candidate’s name on the ballot. All state and federal offices—such as U.S. representative or Minnesota senator—are partisan offices. Partisan candidates will be listed in two columns on the front side of the primary ballot. One column will list the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party candidates. The other column will list the Republican Party candidates. You can only vote for candidates from one political party. If you vote for candidates from both political parties, your votes will not count. You decide which one of the two parties you will vote for—Minnesota does not have political party registration. Non-partisan offices will not list a political party next to a candidate’s name on the ballot. For example, county, city, township and school board offices are nonpartisan. Nonpartisan offices will be listed on the back side of the primary ballot. You can vote for any candidate. The candidates who get the most votes will be on the November general election ballot.

Push or Pull?
The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty
one who will save;
he will rejoice over you with gladness;
he will quiet you by his love;
he will exult over you with loud
singing. ~ Zephaniah 3:17
One day, a man was walking across a bridge and saw
another man standing on the edge, about to jump off. He
immediately ran to him and said, "Stop! Don't do it!"
"Well, why shouldn't I?" he replied. The other said, "Well,
there's so much to live for!" "Like what?” ”Well … are
you religious or atheist?" "Religious." "Me too! And are
you Christian or Jewish?" "Christian." "Me too! Are you
Catholic or Protestant?" "Protestant." "Me too! Are you
Episcopalian or Baptist?” "Baptist." "Wow! Me too! Are
you Baptist Church of God or Baptist Church of the
Lord?" "Baptist Church of God." "Me too! Are you
Original Baptist Church of God, or are you Reformed
Baptist Church of God?" "Reformed Baptist Church of
God." "Me too! Are you Reformed Baptist Church of God,
reformation of 1879, or Reformed Baptist Church of God,
reformation of 1915?" "Reformed Baptist Church of God,
reformation of 1915!" To which he said, "Die, you
heretic!" and pushed him off the bridge. The body of faith
is one big family. Yes, we differ in opinion on some
issues. But we are going to be together for eternity and
God’s command to us is to live in peace with one another!
All of the world in all its diversity is the beloved creation
of God! In order for us to make a real difference in the
world, the world needs to experience us as the hands, feet,
and voices of God’s accepting love. Let’s not be like the
man who pushed the other off the bridge, but rather be
agents of God’s loving embrace in what we do and say —
pulling into that embrace all who need understanding,
acceptance, and love.
Prayer for today:
Make your ways known upon earth, gracious God, your
saving power among all peoples. Renew your beloved chil-
dren in holiness and help us to serve you with joy. Guide
the leaders of all nations, that justice may prevail through-
out the world. Let not the needy be forgotten, nor the hope
of the poor be taken away. Make us instruments of your
peace and let your glory be over all the earth. Amen.

“This Is My Song” This is my song, O God of all the nations, a song of peace for lands afar and mine, This is my home, the coun-try where my heart is; here are my hopes, my dreams my holy shrine; but other hearts in other lands are beating with hopes and dreams as true and high as mine.
~ Lloyd Stone, 1912-1993 and Georgia Harkness, 1891-1974
When August 1st rolls around many Minnesotans are getting excited about the Great
Minnesota Get-together! While we are dreaming up with deep-fried, battered goodness we
will indulged in (Editor’s note, I like either the mini-doughnuts or Pronto Pups) Bev Stro-
schein is dreaming of adding more ribbons to her collection of State Fair winners!
For over 23 years, with the help of husband Larry, Bev has been entering canned goodies
and crafts into the MN State Fair for judging. This year is no different, as she has been busy
over the past months canning her hot salsa, strawberry-rhubarb jam, Bread and Butter Pickles,
strawberry jam, pickled beets and cherry jelly. The most she ever entered was 17 items and
She has proven to be tough competition with over 100 ribbons to prove it, 13 sweep stakes for
Best of the Best! Three years ago, Bev won the Gedney Pickle award for best pickle in the state! How can you have
your favorite home canned goodies judged? First, you must register your entry online with full details of the recipe
disclosed. Judges require you to bring two jars of each canned goodies into the fair by 8/1, they are numbered so no
name is associated with the product. One is looked over for consistency and air bubbles. If it passes inspection it is
then opened and tasted. The other is used for display. Any 1st place winners can’t be entered again for three years. Bev
also enters crafts into the fair. This year she entered a table runner, dinner cloth and embroidery work. Just one of
these projects took her over 400 hours to finish!! The results of who won are kept secret until 9:00 a.m. on the opening
day of the fair! Every year, Bev and Larry go on opening day after having their an-
nual breakfast at O’Gera’s to see if she was lucky enough to win! Hopefully this
year you will be able to go to the arts and crafts building to see some of Bev’s work
and enjoy some deep fried foods! If you want an even better experience and wish to
taste these items, head over to Bev and Larry’s church Bizarre in November where
they will be up for sale!
Welcome to Cherrywood Pointe, Karli!
My name is Karli Schneider and I will be the new Activities Director here at Cherrywood
Pointe of Roseville at Lexington. I grew up in near Milwaukee, Wisconsin and recently made
the move out here to join you all. I graduated from University of Wisconsin- LaCrosse in 2017
with a degree in Therapeutic Recreation and Gerontology. I went on to become certified as a
therapeutic recreation specialist. I worked in a skilled nursing memory care and rehab imple-
menting activities and events for a year after graduating. Growing up I was always around senior
living with my mom being a nurse and my dad being an architect for senior living facilities and
as a result it led me to my passion.
In my free time, I love spending time outdoors hiking. I love watching (most) sports, my favorite being football. I
do have to warn everyone in advance, I am a Green Bay Packer fan. My family all lives in Wisconsin, which includes
my older sister, my parents, and my puppy, Scout.
Now that you all know a little more about me, I am very excited to meet and learn more about all of you!
LOOKING TO VOLUNTEER??
Join Karli on August 20th at 11:00 a.m. to learn more!
