With the lessons learned from recent school shootings, including Sandy Hook Elementary School, the Los Angeles Unified School District revised and updated it’s Emergency Procedures for critical incidents, including active shooters. L.A. School Police Department Deputy Chief Timothy J. Anderson will discuss the reason for the changes. The course will provide an overview of pre-incident indicators, preparation and threat assessment, methods to identify the differences between a Lockdown situation and an Active Shooter, including Rapid Relocation. The course will help school personnel identify expectations and law enforcement response during an Active Shooter event. Participants will be able to present the information to district decision makers so they can update or revise their policies and procedures, train staff and improve safety. Deputy Chief Anderson is a 22-year veteran of the Los Angeles School Police Department. Deputy Chief Anderson holds a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Management from the University of La Verne and a master’s degree in Emergency Services Administration from California State University Long Beach. Deputy Chief Anderson is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy, West Point Leadership Academy, FBI LEEDA – Command Institute, National Counter-terrorism Academy, CA POST Executive Development Course, and the International Counter-terrorism Course (Israel).
